Vacation Time

I’m on vacation the rest of this week, through Saturday.  No posts until I get back to work Sunday.  Looks a bit September-ish on those weather maps.

OMG – what in heavens name is wrong with some of us? Summer has been fantastic compared to last few years. And as always so much nicer then most other areas

    • PAUL D says:

You got that right! No smoky days, no 100 degree days, minimal 90+ days, no official heat waves. Much better than the last couple summers!

I like heat and sun. That’s all. I just want my dose before the winter starts.

Yikes seems like it’s been a rough summer. Glad I’ve been gone for most of it.

Say what you like about this summer, but I wouldn’t trade it for last year’s smoke-out. Particularly at this time last August; I was looking up at a milky-grey sky on the afternoon of the 19th, seeing an orange coloured sun feebly casting light on the ground around me. The smoke was so thick that day (and the day before) that the temperature was about 10-15 degrees (Fahrenheit) lower than it would have been without it. I actually felt a bit chilly in that murky sunshine!

Another cloudy morning/forecast bust from all sources. This summer has been terrible…. good riddance.

  6. W7ENK says:

According to Professor Mass, Summer ends on Wednesday. Sure, were right on the edge of it, but it looks like a strong uppercut to the jaw.

  7. Roland Derksen says:

Not thinking of fall here yet either. We’ve really been dry this month (0.32 inches to date) Often August in the second half of the month sees at least 1 day of heavy rain for us, but I haven’t seen/ heard anything of that so far.

  8. WEATHERDAN says:

While we have not had much extreme heat this Summer, it has been a little above normal for temperatures and a little below normal for rainfall. At least here in Salem. And the next 16 days look mainly dry with 80,s and the occasional 90. So I hope you all enjoy the 2nd half of August. Peace.

Mark is right about those ”September-ish” weather maps. Average temps the rest of the workweek, then we get below average temps for the weekend. Then we go back to summertime next week?? (Models say Portland will get close to 90 by next Tuesday). We’ll see.

  10. PAUL D says:

    Flirting with 90 again 😦

    • JERAT416 says:

Funny, a couple days ago some people were jumping on the “looks like fall ” bandwagon too!

      • Larry says:

I’m not ready to jump on the ”looks like fall” bandwagon. Undoubtedly signs of fall are already showing up. (Why so early?). But yeah, mid august is figuratively in both summers’ and falls’ grasp. Meaning, anything can happen, and you know what? next weeks temps prove just that.
Tue and Wed close to 90. when Mark comes back from vacation on sunday, I will feel more comfortable about the decision of joining the bandwagon. I also suggest other people do the same. 🙂

Mark, enjoy your vacation. I don’t see any September-ish weather anywhere on the horizon. Looks like indefinite warm to hot mid-summer weather.

    • Jake in Gresham says:

A lot of people forget that we typically can have a late Summer in Portland, Oregon with the cover the valley floor heating has. Relative to the coast covered by the cool ocean air or East of the Cascades being in high altitude desert for the most part really makes us a spot for surprising weather. I remember one Summer swimming in the Columbia river on October 2nd. It was about 92 outside and I spent the whole day there. Of course the next week it reverted to 50’s and showers but (like a light switch – really stark). Hopefully this Summer doesn’t do that of course. It’s been cool thus far.

  12. Rol says:

Another vacation? Well, best of luck- you should come up again to BC- we’re back in the sunshine.

  13. W7ENK says:

Well, considering September is only two weeks away…

    Have fun, Mark!
