It’s time again for the annual Winter Weather Forecast Conference at OMSI. It’s coming up tomorrow at OMSI. I’ll be presenting my usual recap of the past winter.
The Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) will host the 26th annual “Winter Weather Forecast Conference” on Saturday, October 27th @ 10 AM @ OMSI in Portland. Meteorologists from across the Pacific Northwest will once again converge on Portland to give their annual forecasts for the upcoming winter to a capacity crowd of nearly 300 attendees. What lies ahead this winter with the likely return of El Nino? Come hear the latest details. The Oregon AMS chapter will also be raffling off a $200 voucher to the Tolovana Inn Resort in Cannon Beach, along with a $300 Davis home weather station. This meeting is free and open to all ages of the general public.
Where: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) main auditorium, 1945 S.E. Water Ave. in Portland.
Meeting and parking cost: This meeting is free and open to all ages of the general public. Free parking in all OMSI parking lots.
Agenda: Meteorologists from across the Pacific Northwest will once again give their weather forecasts for the upcoming winter.
Who is the Oregon AMS? The Oregon chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) was founded in 1947 and is the single largest local chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in the country, with approx. 180 members. The Oregon AMS chapter normally hosts meetings from September to May that are free and open to all ages of the general public. The Oregon AMS welcomes the public to become chapter members for just $10 per year. The Oregon AMS chapter mission statement reads, “The purpose of this society shall be to advance professional ideals in the science of meteorology and to promote the development, exchange, and application of meteorological knowledge.” Our meetings are always found on our web site: http://www.ametsoc.org/chapters/oregon

26 Responses to 26TH ANNUAL WINTER WEATHER CONFERENCE IS SATURDAY
Really enjoyed the “Weather Conference” today…as always! Mark, etc. such a great job! ‘Had a schedule conflict and had to leave at 11:10–right after the Tyree Wilde presentation. Can anyone provide additional summaries? THANKS!
I’m going out on a limb and say this next system is going to be a little more active than people think. I believe we could see nocturnal thunderstorms and maybe a thunderstorm in the morning. I was looking at the system on Satellite and it looks like it has a lot of energy to me. It’s just my opinion and I could be wrong but I think I could be right 🙂
I’ve noticed with past El Nino winters that there often is a brief period of cooler then average temperatures occurring either in November or December before the typical milder than average temperatures take over for the rest of the winter.
when do you do your part? im a wether enthusiast anyways. I might come. Open for all ages? whew, im only 12. Whatever. see you then.

THE BASICS:
Commenting on this blog is open to anyone with an interest in or fascination with weather. Here at FOX-12 we're happy to provide you a space to "geek out" with fellow Pacific Northwesterners. But please don't abuse the privilege.
1. POSTING LINKS/VIDEO:
It's okay to insert video or pictures, as long as the link points to something appropriate for the general public. No politics, obscenity, etc...
2. CHOOSE A NAME ONCE:
Choose a name or identification once and stick with it. The very first time you comment it is held for moderation. After it's approved, that EXACT name will be allowed to comment at any time. Note that this applies to your IP address too. So using the same name but on Grandma's computer will require a one-time hold as well. This keeps the spam out.
3. NO PROFANITY:
This is pretty obvious, but avoid being rude or taunting others too.
4. NO RACISM, OR VIOLENT THREATS:
This will get you kicked off quickly. Please report this to me at mark.nelsen@kptv.com if it happens here.
Temps dropped 10 degrees in Aloha. Heavy thunder and monsoon rain followed by heavy hail. Several streets flooded because of clogged storm drains.
So I guess we should all cancel school? We have snow days, cold days (0F) the rare heat days so I guess we can throw in drain days while we are at it?
Is it my imagination or could we have issues with these showers? It looks like we could have training with some of them. Hmmmm
Lightning in Kelso WA
I believe we will have a active day. Only because I had hail at 5am 🤗🤗🤗
ken died not have hail at 5 am

I agree, some rain could be decently heavy.
Are you at the Conference?
Oh, no. I have a play to act in today, so unfortunately I couldn’t make it 😦
It was fun. A lot of laughter. I won two tickets to OMSI in the raffle they had. I was hoping for the weather station though…lol
Only .01 in of rain here in Albany today. I expected a whole lot more per the forecast by NWS. Maybe a better chance tomorrow.
Actually…parking at OMSI isn’t free.

His is between 1010 and 1030.
I’ll be there!
I’ll be there. This will be my second time coming to this Conference. I can’t wait 🙂
I’ll be there taking video for anyone who can’t make it.
Available (for free) by request.
I’d have to ask my fellow chapter members at OSU, but I might have a request.
W7. I’d like a look if you don’t mind?
Living way down on the south coast now so a recap would be nice.
I’ll be editing and hopefully getting it posted up in the next day or two.
Myself and some of us from the OSU AMS student chapter will be there!
I’d like to see it too. I usually go in person, but I had a conflict this year. Any reason something like this can’t go on YouTube?
It was streaming live Facebook, plus within a week all the presentations should be online at the Oregon AMS website
