A Week of Summer Temps Ahead

11pm Sunday

Apparently I picked the right week and a half to take off this June.  I had randomly picked this time about 9 months ago to take a trip with the family.  The high temps in the 60s and low 70s started the day I left (the 8th), and ended with high temps around 80 in the metro area today a few hours after I arrived back in town.

The sunshine was perfect today for Father’s Day and it appears we’ll see more pleasant summer weather through at least next Sunday.  Models are in good agreement with the first hot western USA ridge of the summer holding on all week just to our south.  This keeps wet weather systems away; all we have to worry about is the strength of onshore flow.  Eastern Oregon will be very hot tomorrow closer to that upper-level ridge

Meanwhile west of the Cascades I think it’s unlikely we get over 90 tomorrow, that’s in spite of 850mb temps around +18 or +19 in the morning.  Don’t think it’ll be a totally comfortable day…with leftover moisture from sprinkles yesterday plus high temps around 90 expect a bit of a “sweaty feel” compared to normal hot days around here.

Enjoy the warm sunshine this week!

Juneuary is still hanging on here- I had light showers this morning. Temperature is 64F , so that’s still cool. Nevertheless, the heat is still forecasted to reach us by Friday.

Your turn to jump on board, Mark!

Hard to believe cooler than normal when you look at the 7 day forecast and see above normal for the next seven days,

I am a big fan of Pete Parsons–the State Ag met (former TV); extremely adept and a really nice person to boot! His rendition corroborates this!

    • Near normal to warm summer can be anywhere between a cool cloudy wet summer or a sunny dry and warm one. My bet is on a fairly nice sunny summer. As long as I don’t get a summer full of green tomatoes or water in my basement then I am perfectly fine with that.

    • W7ENK says:

Paul, the next 7 days will hardly define the following 93.

    • Joshua Downtown PDX says:

The 15-25 degree positive temperature anomaly for 4 days will certainly skew the average to start the summer. Even pleasant days like today are forecasted to be quite a bit above normal. Thank Moses I’m heading a few states east of here this weekend.

  3. Paul D says:

Make those 90’s go away please!

  4. Jesse-SW Portland Suburbs says:

Why are the 78s and 79s red but the 80s orange?

  5. Roland Derksen says:

Okay- I believe it’s going to get warmer, even here. Almost anything is better than yesterday: low overcast with drizzle in the morning to about 3pm. Today it’s still cloudy here, and still a chance of showers, but it’s warmer, with a peek of the sun.

  6. Paul D says:

Monday can’t be comfortable – it’s going to be above 80.

Mark, if your computer is wrong…..rip it’s mother board out out and send it in to space…and then find call the people that run that super computer and have it checked for dead bugs in its cores..

Cause ..I am seriously thinking. .tech has gone mad.

Are you absolutely sure there is no rain coming?
    Because my weather machine…says….rain…coming…

Today was wierd…As it was 73 is..then the bloody temp surged to.84…making me about to ..lose my cookies….
