Another Wet Month

11pm Thursday…

We are now above normal (for rain) this month…heading toward a 3″ rain total.  I have a feeling it’ll be more like 4″ plus by the end of the month.  It’s pretty clear that we’re going to be getting hit with a series of wet weather systems this last work week of the month

Rainfall so far this month_compared to normal or prev. records

So hunker down and try to survive another showery week ahead.  EVENTUALLY we warm up and dry out at some point.  Of course the big question is when will that happen?  We’ll see.

We’ve been very busy the past 2 weeks revamping all our weather graphics.  In fact the newscasts tomorrow starting at noon should look much different.  TV stations do this from time to time and a fresh graphic look is way overdue.   I’m confident the change will brighten things up quite a bit!

We have about 5.5 inches for the month now here. Still have a way to go to break the old record of 7.84 inches in April 1996, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets close!

  2. MasterNate says:

Well this isn’t good. Even Cliff has never seen a weather pattern that is about to impact us this week.

  3. Jason Hougak says:

Mark the Cascades are going to get hammered with snow. Late season dump today into Tuesday.

  4. Jason Hougak says:

I’d have thought Mark would have posted about Friday’s 70F but am very surprised. One beautiful sunny day and then back to our normal spring weather.

  5. Jason Hougak says:

16 day GFS showing another 4.28″ of rain. Max temp of 69F.

  6. Lee Wilson says:

Hmm..needs some pizaz on the graphics.
    Hmm on severe storms.
How about a weak storm a branch hits a car..severe storm entire tree smashes car?

  7. Jason Hougak says:

I don’t like the new graphics personally. Take a picture from the west hills towards Hood. Rotate them one in spring, one in summer, one in fall, and one in winter. That’d be pretty cool instead of the same looking weather graphic.

My idea may be too complex, but they could have 360 degree panorama of Portland and rotate it one degree every day of the year.

    • Dallin Burnett says:

Better yet, though maybe too complex, is to have a 360 degree panorama shot of Portland and rotate it one degree every day.

    • Jason Hougak says:

I guess that would help the westsiders feel included😜

  8. Rolandf Derksen says:

Back to the grind: We’ve had rain starting here since 12:30pm, and it’s quite breezy as well; Not exactly gale force , but not far from it.

  9. Lee Wilson says:

    Checking in:
    Any one else getting Highwinds?
    They jsut started.

  10. High Desert Mat says:

The new graphics seem a little koinesque if you ask me.

  11. Paul D says:

So here it is a little after 8am on Saturday and the 7-day forecast no longer has Saturday on it. I’d say it’s a little early to be removing Saturday.

  12. Jason Hougak says:

Looking cool all next week with snowlevel getting down to 3500 feet later next week.

  13. Lee Wilson says:

Has the tilt of the earth’s axis from the Japan quake anything to do with the weather? Or are we going into a solar minimum?

    • JJ78259 says:

It is quintessential Oregon weather Lee, just go back a few years the weather was the same way. The last few years have been on the warm dry side. As Mark called one of those years something you won’t see in the next 20. It you want to use solar move down to San Antonio my neighborhood homes have many solar panels on their roofs. You get great homes for half the cost in Oregon I picked up a 3240 sq ft home 1/2 acre lot in ground pool gated community in 2013 for 257 grand! 😎

    • Lee Wilson says:

Hmm…unfortunately, I dont want to be near California…
      Hold that thought…

      Man it’s getting windy.

      Ok..i know California…eeerg…now it is pooring…heavily…
At any rate..i cant be in the warmer climate due to high blood pressure….

      And yup, typical Pacific Northwet.

  14. Gina says:

Is any one else having high winds right now ? Winds started around 7 pm and still blowing, ( Located by mile marker 16 off 503 in Battle Ground wa

    • Jack says:

Yes, blowing pretty good in Camas. It’s not a strong sustained winter windstorm, but regular semi-high gusts for the last several hours. Strongest winds we’ve had in April in some time that I can recall.

    • Hal in Aims says:

yep, all night here…….just cannot seem to stay ahead of the debris,,,,,getting pretty old…

  15. Lee Wilson says:

We hit 77 on this Friday

  16. J. Patrick Moore says:

Reached 72.7 degrees in Friday in Oregon City / Tower Vista area.

  17. Lee Wilson says:

We have always had hot water and we have a hot water tank, but this, this was a nice break through.

The hot water tank consumes a bit of power, on this day, we could run the thing. And the fridge and everything else.

I letteraally shut the breakers off.just to see if we could maintain status quoe.

The sun gave us what we needed. From 9:45 am untill 3:45 am.
Mark, nothing like having fre hot water.e

Nice thing, was we didn’t have to run the generator at all. Tody.

I think I am going to like this theis powering stuff off the sun.

If I was in Prineville, I would state, what power problem?

  18. Lee Wilson says:

We ran on solar for 6 hours and 45 minutes.
    We used.89 Killow what hours.
I can not wait untill we get 4 more panels.
As it stands we can run one a/c unit for those 6 hours. Once we hit 1 kw, we will be able to run 2 ace units…that is 798 watts not going to the pud. And in winter, on a day of sun, it will not be 1, 400 watts going to the PUD.

  19. Lee Wilson says:

We hit 77 F to day.according to my machine And that is no lie.
It stating rain is on the way.
You might want to contact Oregonian and set them straigh on the weather.theýtating this April has been very dry

Lee, your temperature sensor must be in the direct sunlight, up against a building or on asphalt? We did not hit 77 in Castle Rock. Closer to 70. Not trying to be disrespectful but you really need to look into the placement of your temperature sensor or accuracy of it.

  20. Paul D says:

EEK!! New graphics spotted on the 7-day forecast!

I really like how the overnight low overlaps the days – I know exactly what night that number refers to.

  21. Roland Derksen says:

Only 2.48 inches of rain for April so far? I’ve got 4.95 inches here and a lot more to come, if the forecast holds true.

  22. Jason Hougak says:

I see the sun!!! Enjoy everybody. With the conflict between North Korea, Russia, Syria, China and the US heating up our extended outlook into May is cooling down. GFS is now showing -5C 850mb temps!

    • JJ78259 says:

We get our first string of 90 degrees plus shortly great to see Weather Dan Weather back again!

  23. Paul D says:

Please no emojis in the new graphics!

  24. Look forward to seeing the new weather graphics Mark. Excited to finally get to see what the view looks like without clouds at the new house we closed on a few days ago! Couldn’t see much of a view the few times we were there due to grey skies. I think we have a Mount Hood view but won’t know for sure till tomorrow.
