More Warm Weather Facts

10pm Tuesday…

Just made this pic for the 10pm newscast:

Two very warm Februarys; and today we “only” hit 59, but some parts of the metro area made it into the lower 60s

Looks like a lot more cloud cover tomorrow, especially west of I-5 as a cold front dies over the coastline.  East of I-5 and over the Cascades quite a bit more sunshine.  Beyond that, Thursday is looking quite warm, we’re forecasting 65 degrees.  We’ll see how that works out.

  2. I saw my second 60+ maximum of the month today; got up to 60.3F.But after this beautiful day , it all goes down through the weekend!

  3. Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

I noticed northern Clark County was the “hot” spot today with upper 60s and even some low 70s. Must have been just enough offshore push. PDX hit 64, KVUO only hit 63.

I hit 71 out here. I need to verify the fan is working on the weather station, but I just replaced it last year. Nearby stations were from 69-71.

This all after it hit 32 this morning.

  4. Boydo3 N. Albany says:

Think it’s warm here, it’s currently 41 degrees in Fairbanks! The average high for this date is 15.

    • Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

I’ll be up there in a week! Last time I went up in March it was -30 one night. Two days later it was 40 and it felt so warm!

    • Boydo3 N. Albany says:

Hopefully the northern lights will be lighting up for you. And it will be cold and clear!

    • Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

Haven’t been snubbed yet! One day a couple years ago it was mainly cloudy, but the northern lights peaked out.

It was warm (around 30) that night and very windy.

  5. 59.5F for a maximum yesterday, and today’s weather looks basically like a repeat, so maybe we’ll reach 60 this time!

  6. muxpux (Longview) says:

Fog has rolled in here in castle rock. Moons still visible. Not very cold. Perfect

What was that dark cloud or shadow on mt. Hood at sunrise?

  9. Paul D says:

Hopefully the above normal winter and spring means a below normal summer!

    • High Desert Mat says:

I’m with you Paul. Summers in central Oregon seem very hot and dry to me. I could use a down summer and cold winter coming up. Everything’s cyclical, eventually it will turn again. Nobody knows when. We are in unchartered territory so whatever happens will be talked about in 100 years just like we are now. I think we cool off the next decade and then go back to normal for the one after that. One thing is for certain, we wont be breaking heat records consistently anymore after this upcoming spring. The 8 ball enlightened me.

  10. WEATHERDAN says:

Sunny and 58 at 1:00 PM Should hit 60 again this afternoon. Sure feels like a Spring day to me. Only 18 days till dst. Peace.

You could always just reset your clocks now and save us your insufferable countdown to the blatantly obvious…

… tomorrow will be Thursday – only 2 more days ’til Saturday!!!!!

    • Chris in Portland says:

GTS1K’, you have some real problems. I pray to God you aren’t like this in your actual life and are just using this blog to take out some of your frustrations.

    • WEATHERDAN says:

Why do you have to be such a jerk? Go grab a deck of playing cards and play with yourself. I imagine you are used to playing solitaire.

    • High Desert Mat says:

Redundancy. That’s all. And from what I can tell, that was a pretty jerk thing to say Dan. Come on.

    • Boring Oregon says:

Onlt about 17 weeks until the days start getting shorter. And before you know it those hot summer days will be gone and the steady winter rains will set in again. Then we may get a nice snowstorm next year, won’t be long until we find out!

  11. GTS1K' says:

Way back before AGW or whatever, here’s 60+ degree days from ’86 to ’96

    ’86 – 5
    ’87 – 1
    ’88 – 4
    ’89 – 0
    ’90 – 5
    ’91 – 7
    ’92 – 6
    ’93 – 0
    ’94 – 0
    ’95 – 6
    ’96 – 3

    Let’s see; that’s 37 60+ days – compared to 21.

This last decade seems just a tad cooler, no?

    • James Jones says:

And despite that, 27.4″ of snow fell in those 11 Februaries, compared to 9.1″ from ’06 to ’16.

    • As a comparison, I recorded 18 60+ days in ’86-96′ at my place, but just 2 in ’06-’16. Yet I measured 49.6 inches of snow in that earlier period as compared to 15.15 for the last 10 years. It’s a complicated situation. You have to factor in days with sunshine and other things. I’m not qualified to get very specific! 🙂

    • GTS1K' says:

Ooops, mea culpa – see above…

  12. It’s intresting to see February 2008 had almost as many 60-degree days as 2015 or 2016.

    • Benjamin (West Salem) says:

Yeah, I noticed that also. I remember the winter of 07/08 and Spring of 08 as extremely cool and wet, but looking back in the blog archives I see that the last week+ of Feb 08 was very mild. I think that’s fairly normal to have a nice week in February, even in the coolest of springs.

  13. High Desert Mat says:

2nd! Not as cold today, only 26 at my house this morning when I left. I’m ready for spring and summer. Beer and bikinis!!
