Late Evening Ice Update

11pm Monday…

Temperatures have dropped to right around freezing with some unanticipated clearing.  Here are the air temps:

and the ODOT road surface temps have dropped to around freezing too:

Now a thin band of light showers is approaching from the south.  Sure seems like we could see spots of freezing rain even in the lower elevations of the metro area.   Possibly, but I’d be more worried about getting a few rain showers and then more clearing later tonight.

But as of now it appears to me cloud cover should thicken quite a bit later with increasing showers.  That would keep temps near/above freezing and avoid any widespread re-freezing of roads.  Hope I’m not wrong!

Obviously Tuesday morning is a time to check the temperatures and road conditions before you head outside!

THE COOL AND DRY OFFSHORE FLOW…REFRIGERATED BY SNOW COVER EAST OF THE CASCADES…COULD SET THE STAGE FOR ANOTHER WINTER WEATHER THREAT IF A SYSTEM UNDERCUTS THE UPPER RIDGE AND APPROACHES
FROM THE SOUTHWEST. THE 00Z ECMWF SUGGESTS THIS WILL HAPPEN ON SATURDAY…WITH ABOUT 30-40 PERCENT OF THE NAEFS ENSEMBLE MEMBERS
DISAGREEING WITH THE 00Z/06Z OPERATIONAL RUNS OF THE GFS AND SIDING WITH THE 00Z ECMWF. WITH 850 MB TEMPS NEAR OR SLIGHTLY BELOW 0 DEG C
AND OFFSHORE FLOW…THIS COULD BE A SNOW SCENARIO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE LOWLANDS.

Steady light rain and 32.1 here…

  3. Seahawks Fan - East Vancouver says:

Temps stayed below freezing for about 9 hours last night. Enough to cause some car accidents near my house.

  4. W7ENK says:

34 degrees and clear when I went to bed last night.
33 degrees and raining when I left the house this morning.

Roads were just wet, no ice anywhere.

This blog is deader then a graveyard. It’s winter and we had our first winter/mix yet there were FAR more comments over the course of one week back in June when it was 100F.

This winter weather scenario would used to net a good 100/200 comments per article minimum usually random users.

Did a whole bunch of people get put on mod preview or migrate to Skype?

No, we’re all still here, Kyle. This is just the hangover from the New Year’s weekend snow & ice party. Things will perk up when the models start to show something interesting again.

Raining in BG. 32.4 degrees. Some ice, but mainly on elevated surfaces.

  7. Max in Fairview says:

Nice chunk of moisture over us now. Still pretty icy on the side roads.

  8. Adam in SE says:

I drove home from a friend’s place near SE 72nd & Powell tonight at about 9:00, and the roads were definitely a little sketchier than they’d been a few hours earlier. I think re-freezing has already been happening.
