  1. Boring Oregon says:

    I’m cold.

  2. The heat wave is officially over. Thank goodness. The ocean air pouring inland felt amazing last night.

  3. Jason Hougak says:

What was the air quality yesterday? I crossed town to do a job in Scapoose and it seemed the worst this year.

  4. Paul D says:

The next five days BELOW 80?!? I must be dreaming! So nice to see the end of the hot weather.

  6. Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

Awe nice ocean breeze blowing in tonight! 69 degrees. Running about 8 degrees cooler than last night at the same time.

  7. WEATHERDAN says:

76 at 7:00 PM with smoky and cloudy skies but dry. Eugene got a little light rain but that’s it. Partly cloudy and cooler for the the next 4 days. 79-83 and very likely dry. Then a warm up to the mid to maybe high 80,s by late next week. A slight chance of rain around the 19th but I suspect that won’t happen. So normal to a little above for the next 7-10 days. Nice Summer weather. Peace.

    • High Desert Mat says:

You are a living breathing warm bias. Argue about it all you want but we all see it.

    • Chris s says:

Yesterday you said we would be back to 90 shortly. You also said we would be mid 90’s till Friday a few days ago, that didn’t pan out. I get it you like the hot weather, but it’s fairly easy to see the warm bias in your forecast. Just sayin.

  8. Benjamin (West Salem) says:

Radar is starting to look better for the mid and southern valley: http://radar.weather.gov/lite/NCR/RTX_loop.gif

  9. WEATHERDAN says:

80 at 1:30 PM. About 90 today. Last for at least a week. In a normal year we would be looking at an additional 14 or so 90,s the rest of the Summer. We should have already had about 2. So I estimate 12-16 further such days. That would give us 30-36 90+ days this Summer. Last year we set the record with 35. Of course we could wind up with no additional days but I think that unlikely. In 1970 and 1977 our main heat was gone by late August. However this being early July it is way to early to think of the heat being over. Cloud formations not looking all that impressive on the sat pix. Maybe some TRW,s around EUG late today but not likely farther North. some ACU CAS in the sky and plenty of smoke but still a nice day.

    • W7ENK says:

Methinks you missed the cluster of cells developing on the West slopes of Mt. Hood moving down into Central Clackamas County.

    • W7ENK says:

Relatively small cells, but they’re progressing along quite nicely, and moving this way! Already some reports of thunder out of them…

    • Boring Oregon says:

Well, not to rain on your parade but it looks like those cells have weakened a bit in the past few minutes.

    • WEATHERDAN says:

Eugene looks like they are about to be hit with some heavy rains but I just checked the NWS doppler radar and nothing much farther North than Lane county is headed our way methinks. Peace.

  11. W7ENK says:

Lots of ACCAS over the Central Valley and foothills this morning…

  12. Boring Oregon says:

The sky is just a crisp blue right now. Pure beauty.

  13. David B. says:

Lots of smoke up this way the past few days. It’s held our high temperatures down and basically ended the heat wave early for me (no 80s since the weekend). There’s also some areas of marine stratus this morning and it’s hard to tell where the foggy patches end and it’s just smoke. Definitely no views of Rainier or Baker for me this morning.

  14. Jason Hougak says:

Welcome smoke to this hot dry summer. Nice blue sky days are over as the parched land burns.

  16. chiefWright (Marquam) says:

Wow, looks like a pretty active cell is moving from Sweet Home WSW to Harrisburg, leaving a very strong CG strike trail. NWS is saying: crickets!

    • chiefWright (Marquam) says:

Petering out now as it crosses I5. But I see the strike trail streches back to the cascade crest around McKenzie Pass. Look out for wildfire in the Middle Santiam in a couple days!

    • Boydo3 N. Albany says:

Yeah was watching that on radar and looks like it went southwest toward just north of Eugene. Lots of strikes.

    • Benjamin (West Salem) says:

We could have some good storms in the southern/mid valley tomorrow… I’m hoping we do. I’ll be closely watching the radar and satellites for convection firing.

  17. WEATHERDAN says:

75 at 9:00 PM after a high of 92. Towering CU South through East with lots of lightning audible on car radio. TRW debris clouds. One more day around 90 tomorrow then low 80,s Friday-Monday then back to the mid to high 80,s by middle part of next week. Dry unless we get hit by a TRW, then we could get a real downpour. Summer is by no means over. It has only just begun and there will be more hot days to follow. But not for at least in the next week or so. Rod Hill has been over the top of late on his weather reports. Seems kinda goofy but oh well. He sure seems to really want this spell of cooler weather. Mark is so much better than the rest of the the tv mets. Enjoy the cooler weather. Peace.

  18. Wendy-Silverlake, Wa says:

Okay, so weird sky/air and I’m hoping someone can help figure this out. I tried to take a pic of it but it wasn’t coming out right. It looks like fog, but no moisture to it. Also looks like smoke, but no smell at all. It’s this weird haze that you can see through but gives you an insane headache to be outside for even a few minutes, even now that’s it’s almost dark. Anyone have any idea. Thought it might have just been low clouds, but doesn’t resemble that at all either.

    • High Desert Mat says:

Maybe its humid from virga? Rain that’s falling but evaporating before it hits the ground. I don’t know.

    • WEATHERDAN says:

Maybe it.s like the mist from the Stephen King novel. Spooky. Peace.

    • Wendy-Silverlake, Wa says:

Lol, we’re actually watching that right now!!!

    • chiefWright (Marquam) says:

Looks like the flow in your area is WNW, so it might be smoke from the fire on Mt Adams nucleating moisture in the air as the evening temp decreases and humidity increases. That’s what they call smog!

    • sds says:

it is just diluted smoke from the BC fires–it was here all day in Woodland too. Check out Cliff Mass’s weather blog for an explanation.

  19. umpire says:

Not here, but Boise dropped nearly 30 degrees around dinner time, had monsoonal rains over an inch, along with winds and yes – wait for it – lightning! Guess it was quite the show, though my brother had to go a back way home since the street by his house was flooded.

  20. WEATHERDAN says:

85 at 2:00 PM. Headed for 94. Hit 90.1 yesterday but SLE was 89. So the official streak has stopped but mine continues. Day number 10. Tomorrow we might touch 90 or not. Then a nice run in the eighties. no cool wet weather in sight but 80 or even 85 might seem cool after our hot weather of late. 57 last night so our warm overnight lows continue. So much extreme weather this Summer across the U.S a little heat doesn’t seem so bad. Peace.

  21. Paul D says:

I just love the way all those low 80’s are pushing the 90’s right off of the 7-day forecast!

  23. That smoke/cloud is making a bee line south. Hopefully it sticks around for a great sunset tomorrow evening

  24. W7ENK says:

PDX topped out at 87 today, so we fall short of the record streak of 90s. I managed to eek out 90.2 this afternoon in Milwaukie, so my streak continues…

  25. Another day in the 80’s here- but just barely(80.5F). A chance of showers now mentioned in the forecast for early next week in my area (Vancouver BC). Just 30% chance currently, but it’s something to hope for.

  26. David B. says:

Only 75 for a top today after a low of 55 this morning. Within a couple degrees of normal! Feels cool and crisp by comparison. I normally like the few 80+ degree days we get but I’ve had my fill of them already this summer. Nice to see things headed in a more normal direction.

  27. High Desert Mat says:

Those are quite the echos of that thunderstorm sw of Bend. Looks severe on radar.

    • Eugene Dave says:

Chase it down. Report on hail size. Thank you.

    • High Desert Mat says:

65-70 dbz. Pretty impressive cell west of Bend. I’d love to go chase it down but I have my infant daughter with me right now Dave. If it moves my way ill report.

    • David B. says:

But of course. Mark’s not here, so the interesting weather is. Works every time.

    • Eugene Dave says:

Understandable. If a cell like that was ever in the southern valley, I’d chase it down. I’m a bit jealous. Looks like it also is providing plenty of rain. It might be drier on the west side than in central Oregon right now.

  28. pastasteve says:

    Dirnal

  29. runrain says:

Looks like Crater Lake is getting hammered pretty good right now. And on the visible loop, it appears the flow is somewhat from the southeast, or perhaps its just the growth of the thunderheads. It would sure be great to get a surprise stray tonight or tomorrow for some deck viewing entertainment.

  30. MasterNate says:

Nice to have some morning clouds and westerly breeze! Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if we fell short of 90 and the most consecutive 90 degree day.

    • MasterNate says:

I see most other forecasts have our area topping out in the upper 80’s today. Bring on the big chill!

    • chris s says:

Running a -10 degree departure from yesterday down here in Salem, looks as though 90 will be out of the question today, and most likely we are done with the 90’s for quite a while!!!! sorry Weatherdan, I know you had us in the mid 90’s today and tomorrow, lol.

    • Paul D says:

Clouds, beautiful clouds. BE GONE, 90’s!!

    • High Desert Mat says:

      No

    • Garron near Washington square says:

      Brandon,

You should come to the OMSI event, sometime near the end of October. It is a free event, and a lot of the local TV mets, Mark Nelsen included, will be there to make predictions. It’s called the “WHAT WILL WINTER BE LIKE” meeting. Keep tuned, as I’m sure Steve Pierce will give us lots of updates about when it will be…Also, you get to tour OMSI for FREE that day, fun for the whole family!

    • High Desert Mat says:

And if your lucky like me you’ll get to win two of the five prizes including the grand prize!!! What an awesome day that was.

    • High Desert Mat says:

Still have that Davis vantage vue. Working like a charm

    • W7ENK says:

I guess Brandon missed the part where Mark said he was going on vacation…
