I just read some interesting articles and blog posts about a major change in the US Air Force. They are dumping their WRF model (and support) and instead going with a UK model!
Here’s an article from The Capital Weather Gang.
And a blog post from Cliff Mass up at the UW.
I don’t have any great thoughts about it because I just now read the articles myself. Seems like a bad move in general though.
Today was crazy wasn’t it? We dropped from 81 yesterday to 62 today.
At one point this evening (around 5pm) we were running about 25 degrees below yesterday at the same time!
That’s all, not much weather happening except a huge cooldown in progress. Snow flurries may stick down to around 3,000′ tomorrow morning!

Fresh new snow at Timberline and throughout the coming weekend.
It’ll be rain Sunday…a warm front
Tuesday’s sunset.
Beautiful! Love the crepuscular rays.

Loving the cooler (actually normal for this time of year) weather!
Not so sure if this comes as a surprise. Most everyone with an interest in the industry knows that the GFS is generally garbage, and the EURO simply has a superior product.
They couldn’t go with the ECMWF, too much French influence and that would be just plain un-American 😉
Well Boydo the air force would end up sun burning their armpits if they went to the ECMWF.
Enjoying all the spring snow
Thanks Mark
That’s quite a contrast in temperature maximums from one day to the next! I saw the temperature fall from 66F at 1:20 pm. yesterday to 51F 4 hours later. I’m sure someone else can come up with an even better example.
I was afraid to speak on the matter for fear of some one saying my weather station was off or that some one might think of me as off..I had to put the heater back in to my greenhouse.
So I guess it wasn’t me after all.
