Record Warm March

Can you believe 5 of the past 12 months we’ve seen all-time record warm conditions in Portland?  Yep, August, September, October, February, & now March are the warmest in Portland Airport history:

There are two reasons.  For one, there has been a tendency for upper-level ridging to hang around the West Coast or eastern Pacific for much of the past two years.  The other is the unusually warm eastern Pacific ocean waters, also called “The Blob” over the past 18 months or so.  You can see it on the sea surface temperature anomaly map:

One of the results of all the warm weather is the growing season running well ahead of schedule.  My apple trees are beginning to bloom; these typically bloom a month from now.  Chris Markes was out in the Hood River Valley today and says it is already at the peak…a good three weeks ahead of the main blossom festival time.  So get out there within the next week!

There have been several periods over the past year where the ridge has broken down and we return to a wet & cool weather pattern for a week or two, or three.  This is happening again for at least the first couple weeks of April.  Between now and April 15th there will likely be more snow above 5,000′ than we have seen since December!  Lots of showers in the valleys too.  Let’s just hope for no frost to ruin the blooming trees.

Lee, you may want to start proof reading your posts before you post them. Most of them are really hard to decipher.

    • Seriously…. Lee, i’ve read all your reasoning…if you have time to post remarks, then please take the 30 seconds to actually read what you wrote before you hit the “post comment” button…

    • …if you only posted once in awhile with something it might not be such a deal…but when you’re flooding the blog with posts, it gets annoyingly obvious…

Actually I have disabled the auto replace word feature.
Android can be a real pain in the.

I have also removed the newest version of fire fox and reverted to an older version hard to type when the android version crashes every time.

I swear, why can’t. they just leave things alone?

I also added an ad blocker. KPTV, ads I understand, but the sight runs rampant with ads that well.. frankly crash things.

I are do hope the new network guy can fix things.

so was tying fast to post before crashing.

I think the new web developer has his work cut out for him.

see I can type coherently. when not crashing.

Just comparing a station i have to another.

kind of curious on some of these rigs.

if i have to insert batteries in to mine, hoare some of these other stations powered?

i am planning on adding a solar panel to mine in the near future to aid in charging the batteries.

Amazing hail shower just rolled through Monmouth about 30 minutes ago (around 1:30pm). Heavy hail turned the ground white and we even had several loud thunder claps/rumbles.

  7. Could have been our warmest March on record here as well, but the rain and heavy clouds in the second half of the month kept it at no.2.

One thing I have noticed is that this blog tends to be more casual where Western Weather forums if it’s a good day and they are not drunk and at each other’s throats can get into quite in depth discussions about long range weather unless they are in a What Do You Do With A Drunken Blogger mode.

Here it is more of a backyard over the fence mentality where someone shouts over their fence what the temp and rainfall they got was and the other person often gives back a sarcastic reply back if they are in a mood. unless a winter storm comes in that impacts driving conditions down to low elevations then this blog easily gets over 500+ comments in just ONE DAY more then Western Weather or even the bigger weather forums like Talk Weather or Accu Weather which focuses back east along the 1-95 corridor.

I noticed on the the the jet stream was coming in from the north over the Pacific and then turning west.

what a sneaky way to send us cold weather.

    • W7ENK says:

Nope, not a troll. Just another weather monkey that finds this level of vocabular ineptitude grammatically abrasive and annoying.

      It was a simple request.

    • W7ENK says:

Again, I’m not trying to troll you. Just trying to make life easier for everyone here, yourself included.

And after all that, I’d say there’s some sort of a problem with your predictive text, and turning it off may be a good idea.

My brain is also taxed z I have keep track of every. Peggy AMD food item he eats. He has PKU a rare metabolic disease at which he can not process the protein. called phenalaline. in other words, he is a vegan beyond vegans and relies on medical formula to minting his life. so forgive me if if I am abut “abrasive”.

I purchased. whether station because I have grownweary of all the inconsistencies. in weather data.

I have started 2 greenhouses. and I rely on the weather forest to care for food plants.

these are our sons plants to aid in reducing the cost of the grocery bill .

and 1 jar of medical “peanut butter” (a bunch of chemicals and lord know what else) is 25.00. His Mack and cheese box,10.00 because it is all fake.

so forgive me if I am a tad abrasive.

but while some of you do weather s a hobby some us depend on it for reasons that are a tad more on the serious end.

I now depend on weather forecasts to see if I need to reinforce the green houses, vent them, or if I will need to purchase an airconditioner.

I also use the weather data to aid in our sir power usage at which I am just getting started in.

like to day, I can run my internet modem only and on says of full sun, I car run a blower to circulate the or in our greenhouses.

The 2 green houses I have re for testing. before I build a stronger non permanent. stricture.

What would we all do without W7’s helpful suggestions and grammar policing?

    • W7ENK says:

You would all plummet into an unintelligible black hole of nonsensical gibberish, lost in the confusing throes of autocorrect fails and elementary spelling mistakes, forever asking each other to repeat their last attempts at communicating in an endless sea of “huh?”s and “what?”s… and screaming. Lots and lots of screaming.

      Basically, my version of Hell.

      Heil Grammar.
