4pm Thursday: 88 in PDX

As of 4pm it’s 88 degrees in Portland, that’s at the official observation site at PDX.  We may yet hit 90 today…we’ll see.  Either way we broke the 85 degree record for May 1st.  We also tied a record for a warm low temperature; the low was only 53 degrees this morning.

This morning’s 850mb temp (around 5,000′) over Salem was 19.2 degrees, more like midsummer than May Day!

Astoria, Salem, and McMinnville have tied or broken records for the day as well.

I hate to say this but this could have been the warmest day for the whole summer of 2014. Hey, it could happen.

89 at PDX… But that’s the hourly update… Hopefully we hit 90. I mean, c’mon, our 2nd earliest 90 degree on record? I just wish it wasn’t SUCH a drastic cool down, possibly as cold as 58 on Sunday? That’s a pretty sharp decrease for Portland. Then again, I could be utterly wrong and these things could happen way more often than I think.

Hmm looks like Happy Valley failed to reach 90 degrees. 89 was our high. No big deal though! It was too hot today lol

  6. Oh so close! 89 today at my house in Battle Ground. Warmest May day I’ve recorded here in the last several years.

89 as of the 6 pm obs at PDX…that’s hot for May 1st!

Buddy of mine was ocean fishing out of Newport today. He said it was crazy calm and warm offshore. Tee shirt weather out there. And the fish were biting too…

Agreed! Oh well it was a good taste of summer and the plants sure seemed to love it.
