For the first time in about 10 years I’m not going out with my kids…they are getting too old! I’m just going to pout about it in the weather center instead.
But YOU should have a good time…radar has pretty much dried up and I just expect a cloudy and mild evening…enjoy!
Chief Meteorologist Mark Nelsen
Per 00z gfs, PDX-BLI gradient pushing 17mb with the next system. High end wind advisory, at least.
Gfs long range looks interesting…
It was a beautiful night! We actually got overheated and came home early.
850mb temps bottom out at -14C for BLI, -11C for SEA and -9C for TTD. Looks to me there is a decent amount of moisture with the arctic front, but too early to predict amounts.
About a week earlier than the event in 1978, a year for analog fans that had a similar September and October.
Wait a couple runs and it’ll most likely be gone. Happens every winter….poof!
I will add that there is model consistency with both the EURO and now GFS. With the way models have been showing different solutions lately even in the intermediate term, it’s great to see the 00z GFS start where the 12z EURO left off with the arctic air at hour 240 this afternoon.
Ooh!
Given where the models have been placing the blocking I had a feeling we would start seeing runs like this, or at least a few ensemble members going in this direction. Still hard to say if we will see anything this extreme. Chilly troughs such as shown over the weekend and toward the end of next week are much more likely, but only time will tell.
00z GFS Alert!
The new 00z GFS all gave us a TREAT, I am speechless! The models will speak for themselves, I don’t have to type anything now, just WOW!!
Eugene scored a +6 departure today, their most significant positive departure of the month. They will end October essentially tied with 2006 for the coolest October since 1981, we’ll have to wait for the final numbers to come in to see if they narrowly edged 06′ or not.
3rd Halloween living up here and no trick or treaters once again…The benefits of living in the middle of nowhere.

Perfect night and 100+ really great kids came by. Very polite and great costumes. Happy Halloween, all. Now, how ’bout some really scary winter weather (after the Beavs game tomorrow, of course).
Just remember guys. If you see a needle hole in your candy wrappers, it is just mark injecting you with the warm weather bias virus.
Happy Halloween!
All misty and drippy here in Sweet Home. Lame!

You in!
I’m in!
