Another Nasty Letter

Every once in awhile I get a fun email.  This one came in yesterday:

“…can we cease with the Forecast for the unstoppable now? These ads are now boring and too childish for a TV station supposedly manned by adults. You have gotten your mileage out of them many months ago and it is time to move on. Lets make these stupid nonsense ads “Stoppable.”
Also you can also cut down the time that you spend on the weather. All we really care for is what the weather will be like tomorrow and a week ahead not all the other garbage that you toss in. The time could be better spent with more news stories. Actually all we really need is the graphics shown to show us if it is going to be sunshine or rain and the temps for each day. When we want a full weather forecast there is the Weather Channel which goes into the weather in detail…”
Obviously I’ve changed the email address too.  I DO actually like the creativity of turning “unstoppable” into “stoppable” in that one sentence.
In the next two sentences the viewer suggests we spend less time on weather and more on news stories. Apparently he didn’t get enough tiger cubs, two headed calves, and sleeping bus drivers last night.  Alright then, we’ll order up more assaults, men trampled by bulls, hunting murders in Grant county, and school fires just for you buddy!   I’ll just throw up the metro forecast and 7 Day and be done in 30 seconds.
Now in the last sentence he really goes off the deep end.  When he/she wants a full forecast he’ll find it at The Weather Channel???  Ummm, when is the last time you saw those folks spending a couple minutes talking about Portland weather?  Maybe during the snow storm of 2008…maybe.

The weather is my favorite part of the news! (Brownie points?) But actually, it is. 🙂

Even when TWC was spending more time doing actual weather updates and forecasts those of us in the West usually got short shrift as they devoted about 90% of their detailed discussions to the Midwest and East Coast areas. Our weather often got little more than a quick mention.

I gave up on The Weather Channel a long time back. Every time I turned it on, they would be doing a story from the past. I wouldn’t mind a West Coast Weather Channel, independently owned and operated that actually paid attention to us here.

Well, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. Sounds like this guy should just watch the Weather Channel. As for Fox 12 Weather, I wouldn’t watch anything else because you actually explain the weather and don’t just put up the seven day forecast for everyone to take a quick look at. I’m somewhat of a weather geek, but I love how you explain the weather. Stephanie and Sophie are a pleasure to watch, but Mark is clearly #1……and a great sense of humor! As for the “unstoppable” ads, no matter what’s going on out here on my farm, these ads continue to bring a smile to my face………..please make sure they remain unstoppable! Keep up the good work……….we all love you!

    Oh by Mark…lol

The Wrong Channel is more detailed than you??? I’ll believe that when I see it, and they may be years from now since I don’t live near Portland.

As for what is going on within the NWS during the shutdown…

It would not surprise me there are a few disgruntled out there. I know the civil service people up at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard are really ticked off about the shutdown and a lot of those people are members of the IAM union which is the same union as Boeing but a different lodge number.

Sorry about the typos also…. Time to hit the rack! Next time I’ll proof read before I post. 🙂

Loved this sentence: “When we want a full weather forecast there is the Weather Channel which goes into the weather in detail…” Um, does the Weather Channel actually do that anymore? I remember when the Weather Channel actually showed us the weather, and in the northwest, even. Ever since NBC bought TWC, they have done nothing but mess it up. I mean, now, most of the day is spent with goofy shows that have NOTHING to do with the weather.

As far as KPTV is concerned, Mark and the team do a great job. I enjoy the graphics and the detail that goes into a forecast. Sure, the unstoppable commercials are a little goofy, but, hey, you remember them, don’t you?

Mark, I just want to thank you and your staff in the effort into making local forecasts detailed as you do. The graphics that show various highs and lows and their position and how they relate to the PNW. They are valuable and helpful in making daily and weekly decisions.

The reason why I watch news on KPTV is your detailed forecasts.

Thanks Mark for not taking the nonsense to heart!!!!

  10. Thank you fruitcake piano man and best friend. BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Interesting NWS discussion. Connect the first letter of each sentence and it seems this disgruntled worker is calling it quits due to the gov’t shutdown.
