4pm…Flooding Rain heading towards Salem

Look at the radar estimate of rain the last hour or two as the band of thunderstorms moves north up the Willamette Valley!

KPTV_Default

I see it’s confirmed by a home weather station (here) near Turner recording just under 2″ in 50 minutes!  Over 2″ from N. Albany up through the Turner area estimated on the map.  The shield of rain should continue moving north and eventually get to the Portland Metro area at some point this evening.

Still almost nonstop lightning up here. Been going on for hours.

  2. pappoose in scappoose says:

“Total predicted rainfall for the 15 hours ending 3 AM is shown below. 1-3 inches over SW Washington and northwest Oregon. And it is not over at that point.”

“The big rain is coming in TONIGHT.”

  3. Hal In Aims says:

So…this stuff rotating around the south Washington cascades looks like it might be trying to sneak in the back door from the northeast?.

  4. Marcus the weather nut says:

Wow!!!!!! Ericks dome has made it all the way to La Center:)

  5. Paul D says:

B-O-R-I-N-G in Hillsboro. It started raining steady (but not hard) a little after 6pm, and didn’t go much more than an hour or so. Guess you southerners got all the fun and the clouds were nearly empty when they made it north.

  6. Dan says:

Finally some rain here in south Salem. Tired of being passed over. I even managed to have my lawn ready with fertilizer!

  7. Lurkyloo says:

Erik, for the last time, keep your Dome to yourself. I’m sick and tired of this. It is seriously played out. Do I have to meet up with you at the weather meeting to get this crap resolved??

    Ha.

Well, obviously nothing much showed up in NE — got a good shot of sorta heavy rain for a few minutes, that was it.

Hey, I’ll do everyone a favor and go to bed early — ‘Poose’s strays ought to show up then! You’re welcome.

  8. P.S.C.Z says:

Wow Checking out Radar Big dry circle around Portland metro. Pretty cool. Not sure Still looks promising for Thunderstorms as the low rotates.

  9. AdamInAumsville says:

Got about 2.5″ of rain here in the span of a couple of hours. Insane!

  10. High Desert Mat says:

Looks like a big goose egg for u guys up in Seattle area on this one. Maybe next year

  11. Andrew says:

Looks like the strong center is near corvallis and moving south…am I wrong on this? Will portland see any action?

    • Marcus the weather nut says:

I think your right looks like Eugene is going to get another soaking!!!!

    • Marcus the weather nut says:

TS I think are going to die down considerably due lack of heating with the sun going down probly just rain from here on out……. Bust!!!!!!!!!

  12. Dave in SW PDX (235') says:

I think that rotation over the southern valley is a shortwave moving east to west around the main upper level low, which has moved onshore and is currently centered over SW Oregon near Grants Pass (if I’m interpreting the water vapor satellite loop correctly). Interesting to watch that feature spinning on radar.

Here at home I picked up .22″ of rain in the last hour, max wind gust SE @ 11. Saw one flash of lightning & heard a rumble of thunder, but that was about it. Outside temp dropped from 66° at 5:30PM to 59° now, my low for the day so far.

  13. vernonia1 says:

    it’s hereeeee!!

  14. Marcus the weather nut says:

Blahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Gnight folks… Maybe we will get a snow storm this winter:)

  15. Wow, Portland radar lighting with all that convection SW WA, not sure I’ve seen that much convective action locally before. Stray cell passed over here a bit ago, altogether a bit quiet up here. Yawn!

  16. runrain says:

    Corvallis Albany just getting pounded!

  17. Marcus the weather nut says:

Heavy rain and some rumbles here in La Center!

  18. pappoose in scappoose says:

There’s a Stray wandering between my place and family in Deer Island. Looks like it’s headed for you folks in Vernonia!

  19. lilfoot123 says:

We keep getting rumbles in Kelso! Waiting

    • Wendy-Silverlake, Wa says:

We’re getting nailed up here. They are all around us. It sounds like a war zone. There’s one heading your direction!!!!

  20. Heavy rain here in BG, and 20 mph winds. 0.18″ here with a peak rain rate of 1.40″.

    No lightning or thunder though.

  21. Lark Spaceman says:

Out here in NE Alberta Street neighborhood it was raining like mad with lots of wind. It feels like a nice autumn storm to me. I thought I heard a bit of thunder but maybe that was wishful thinking. Anyone in NE PDX still seeing the rain and breezy weather?

  22. runrain says:

Wow. It looks like a hurricane the way it spinning in one place like that. It even looks like it’s moving south. I wonder if it’ll shift back north later.

  23. Marcus the weather nut says:

Shafted should have known better !!!!!!!

  24. Bill says:

Still pouring here in Brownsville, at least 1.5″ so far. Looking at the radar there’s now a circular circulation above us, the storm is just spinning in a circle. It’ll be interesting to see how long it lasts…

  25. Hal In Aims says:

    Unbelievable…….watched it just fall apart…….

  26. runrain says:

Uh Oh. The Dome’s fighting back! Shafted again in PDX!

  27. Looks like Oregon got short circuited.

  28. AdamInAumsville says:

Very intense down here. Still have some thunder going on. I would say this was more impressive than 6/4/09 in the lightning and rain department. Didn’t have the gust front like then.

  29. Hal in Aims says:

I see a few of the ‘poose’s strays have broken from the herd and are moving north through central Clackamas County…..

  30. Sandi (Wilsonville) says:

Several claps of thunder heard and heavy rain now in Wilsonville.

  31. brandy says:

we here in stayton had water all the way up to the top of the sidewalk! lots of thunder and lighting wow what a show!!

  32. Holy Cow Batman! Salem is getting hammered. Easy inch in the last 30 minutes. Lots of lightning too.

  33. Rhoda Weikel says:

Not been confirmed yet by the news but I just got a text from a friend saying that I5 is flooded @ Enchanted Forrest. Cars stalled North bound….

  34. 1.70 ” in two hours. Still thunder and lightning. WOW!

  35. Joshua in Lake Oswego says:

Looks like Salem is in the sweet spot right now. We will get the skinny end, but still plenty of goods, it appears.

  36. Hal in Aims says:

is it just me…or… does the lightning seem to be stopping at the Clackamas County line and continuing on north east and west of that line??

  37. Marcus the weather nut says:

Looks to me like the bulk of the system is moving west……. I sure hope we don’t get shafted on this one!!!!

  38. alohabb says:

I was in Lincoln city 2 hours ago and i have never witnessed rain drops the size of golf balls, severe lightning and LOUD thunder , like this in the NW before. It was absolute crazy. If it is headed to PDX, watchout!!!

  39. pappoose in scappoose says:

Yikes, can you say where’s the ARK!

  40. gidrons says:

Thankfully I should be home from my commute before the real fun starts
