It Rained! Thunderstorms Staying Mainly East

2:30pm Thursday…

.06″ at PDX today, lots of areas of drizzle or even a few very light showers the very first half of today.  But don’t get too excited, all it’ll do is settle the dust.  It does end a 35 day dry spell (I think I counted correctly…).  And some parts of the metro area didn’t get measurable rain:

Thunderstorms have popped up all over the place east of the Cascades, a huge amount of action right now in the Blue and Wallowa mountains:

As expected, a major marine push the past 24 hours means cool and moist air all the way up above 6,000′ today!

As a result, temps are struggling to approach 70 degrees.  No big surprise there either.  We could get an elevated thunderstorm over the top of the marine layer, it already happened about an hour ago up in Cowlitz County.

More later if I get some time, I’m doing all 5 shows today including 24 different weather segments…anyone crying for me yet?

Another pretty good cell just sitting on top of Sisters. Wonder if it’s producing any lightning.

  2. WEATHERDAN says:

At 3:00 PM Salem is mostly sunny and 74 degrees. We may top out in the upper 70,s. 85-92 for the next few days. NWS says Monday and Thursday of next week might see some convection in the Cascades. Always a possibility a TRW might drift into the valley. Enjoy the weekend.

  3. WEATHERDAN says:

Never did get any precipitation out of this system. Right now it is partly sunny with temps in the mid 60,s here in Salem. Probably hit about 75 here today.

  4. No measurable rain yesterday, but just after midnight an actual shower moved through and dropped 0.06″.

Precip here in NE right now. Heavy drizzle. Don’t think I can quite call it rain … Looking forward to getting back to summer — this darkness just reminds me of our 8 months-o-gloom. Nevermind, it’s actually raining now.

  9. ocpaul says:

IMO, a refreshing change. (and I work outside every day)

  10. WEATHERDAN says:

Dry all day here in Salem. Some sunbreaks at 4:51 PM. May still hit 70 here today. Looks like mid 80,s to low 90,s the next several days here in Salem starting on Saturday. Pdx will likely be 3-5 degrees cooler each day. They usually are in the summer.
