7 Day Getting Warmer; New Podcast Posted

Steph and I bumped up temps a little on the 7 day this afternoon and I added a couple of degrees again this evening.  Models have been very consistent with a warm atmosphere overhead, sunshine, and offshore flow (at least on Saturday and probably Sunday) pushing temps at least to 70 degrees.  My “magic chart” shows a +10 at 850mb Saturday afternoon with offshore flow producing a high at PDX between 70-75 degrees.  Regardless, this weekend will be the warmest we’ve seen so far this spring and far better than we saw in March last year.

Right now we are running 3rd driest March at PDX.  We’ll probably get a little tomorrow afternoon or Thursday and that could bump us out of the top 5.  We’ll see.

We’ve got a fresh NW Weather Podcast posted!  Brian, Mark, & introducing Joe Raineri as our newest member of the weather team. Lots of fun, a recap of the “big” Hockinson tornado last week (don’t miss the telethon for the victims of the great twister!) and a look back at our sad (boring) winter:  You can check it out here:  http://t.co/OVx2jV0g5b

Joe started last week and he’ll be reporting weekday mornings and filling in weatherwise as well.  In fact his first weather shift is next Monday at 5pm.

    Huge flash and thunder!

  2. Jeff Raetz says:

At 549 PM PDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a developing thunderstorm over Molalla…or about 17 miles south of Oregon City…moving north at 20 mph. Other locations impacted by this thunderstorm through 615 PM PDT include Mulino…Colton and Oregon City. Small hail…heavy rain…and occasional lightning can be expected in these areas.

Based on reading the other spotter reports south of sandy, is sandy in for a z-storm?

  4. cgavic says:

We’ve got light rain showers coming counter clockwise off the mountains.
    Cliff-1, 100 ft sandy

Alright, so I’m interested on what the name Boydo means?

  7. Boydotwo221' says:

We just had a nice thunder/lightning event here. Heavy rain for about five minutes(.11″) with 3 lightning stirkes so far. NICE!

    • Boydotwo221' says:

Sorry Mark, Albany is correct. It appeared to start just SW of us and built rather quickly. The thunder and lightning didn’t start until the storm was right over us and strengthened the further north it traveled.

Boydo is part of my(and brothers)last name, the “two” relates to me being the second oldest of five kids.

  8. W7ENK says:

NWS is claiming report of a thunderstorm over Corvallis earlier. I call BS. Nearest strikes are in Eastern Oregon and current convective parameters do not support thunderstorm development anywhere West of the Cascades.

  9. W7ENK says:

Lightning, in the middle of nowhere!!

  10. *BoringOregon* says:

Looks like some thing is starting to come in from the south and east of us !!

  11. CorbettTez says:

East winds for this weekend? Wondering if we can stay in Corbett and get some gardening stuff done, or make plans to escape the wind and have fun in the city. 🙂

  12. runrain says:

Up to 61 in Happy Valley. Convective temp is 60 per NWS. Had some sprinkles over by Mall 205 around 12:15.

  13. Ben T says:

Lol!! Is there any individual out there who is still hopelessly hoping for snow?

  14. Keep the sunshine coming! This will help develop storms!

    • runrain says:

Yeah, got some pretty good sun going on out there, maybe more than expected. We must be on relentless alert this afternoon!

  15. WhiteEagle - Garden Home / SW Portland says:

The sun is out… Warm up that ground, baby!!! This could be a fun afternoon…

  16. W7ENK says:

I was a little surprised to wake up to fog this morning, fairly thick for a bit, too! It almost reminded me of October. Funny, I think it was last week I said the weather was reminiscent of November… are we going backwards now? 😆 Either way, it means summer is coming, and I can’t wait for the warm sunshine! 🙂

  17. 43 right now. All is calm for the time being. The birds are chirping, the wind is light. We shall see what this afternoon brings.

  18. Marcus says:

So your saying no chance of snow??? I saw some members saying cold huh must have been an outliner lol. Crank up the heat I’m ready for spring and summer:)

  19. JERAT416 says:

This blog will be so entertaining if Easter weekend ends up 50’s and rain…….

    • W7ENK says:

      Shush, you! 😆

    • JJ97222 says:

That song was playing last year but I think the blog would go crazy if we hit 82 degrees. Lets face it the crappy cold weather is going by by and say hello to a drier spring hopefully warmer also! There looks to be a lot of sunny bunny’s running around this weekend picking up dry Easter Eggs for a change.

Oh, damn! Really? I’m getting out the BBQ — like, right now. If those temps show up we’re going to feel really spoiled. And dang if we don’t deserve it.
