A Whole Bunch of Extended Range Maps

Very busy this week since Stephanie K. has been sick and I’ve got all 5 evening shows.  Luckily the weather is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD.

But I have some long range eye candy for you.

First, the 12z GFS and 12z ECMWF ensemble charts.  GFS is hanging onto some members showing colder air from the north with some chilly troughs after about Day 10.  The ECMWF is not.

Second, the twice-weekly monthly run of the ECMWF (last night’s 00z).  Ridge starts to retrogress, then everything appears to flatten out near the end of the month, eventually replaced by a seasonal looking wet pattern into early March:

    Blizzard warning issued for Portland

  4. Dave in SW PDX (235') says:

I thought “eye candy” meant “pleasing to behold”, but these weather maps are more like “eye syrup-of-ipecac”. Not good at all (if you’re hoping for late winter snow in the lowlands, that is).

  5. Some great dark clouds here in Hillsboro, radar shows a cell south of town. And Intel has that giant lightning rod…I mean crane set up again…fingers crossed for that chance of thunder…

  6. W7ENK says:

Jeez Mark, that bored at work?? 😆

    • Lurkyloo says:

Erik put up a smile! Yay! Hope you’re feeling better. The Dome is probably like an airplane — air all stagnate and you have to breathe germs and stuff. That’s my take on why you got sick (has absolutely nothing to do with flu season). 😉

  7. Ben T says:

The silver lining in all of this is golfing weather is soon.

    • According to the golfers I know, it’s a year ’round sport here. And judging from what I see passing by the local courses, it is!

    • For the REAL golfers, who are out there no matter what the conditions………..provided by my brother……

A man had two of the best tickets for the Masters. As he sits down, another man comes along and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.”No”, he says, “the seat is empty.”
“This is incredible!” said the man, “who in their right mind would have a seat like this, the biggest golfing event of the whole world, and not useit?” He says, “Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife was supposed to come with me, but she passed away. This is the first Masters we haven’t been together since we got married.” “Oh… I’m sorry to hear that.
That’s terrible. I guess you couldn’t find someone else?.. a friend or relative or even a neighbor to take the seat?” The man shakes his head… “No….
      They’re all at the funeral.”

  8. pgiorgio says:

getting lots of snow here in MI. Winter storm tonight. Been snowing half the days since christmas. Never getting tired of it.

  9. Ben T says:

Yep, “exciting winter” is done. Bleh, maybe I should listen to you Erik.

    • W7ENK says:

I’m sure there are a handful on here that would vehemently protest that idea, but they’d also have to begrudgingly admit that my accuracy is consistently under par…

    • wwm says:

accuracy?! hahahahahah even a dead clock is right twice a day. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. come on bro its not hard to be right in the “dome” (I’m talking all of portland), all you have to do is predict the opposite of snow and cold.

I’ll give you some credit though you have been on the money this year, sad isn’t it?

  10. Phil in Beaverton says:

Just looked at the 7 day… what happened to our sunny Saturday?

  11. more no winter….I’m kinda liking it!
