You can’t ask for a better holiday weekend than this…sunny or mostly sunny skies. High temperatures in the comfortable 75-80 degree range too.
No matter where you are headed in the Pacific Northwest you’ll find nice weather. Even the ocean beaches will only see spots of morning clouds.
The weather pattern remains very stable over the upcoming week with upper-level ridging building a bit over the West Coast. It won’t be a big hot ridge for at least the next week, but enough to keep us mainly cloudless through the first week of September. Of course it is way too early to know if we have a very warm September on the way. Remember that last September was the 2nd warmest on record here in Portland.
Of course we are also wrapping up a rainless August in most of the Willamette Valley…quite unusual. We’ve only seen 4 completely dry Augusts (only a trace of rain), the last one in 1998. Today is our 41st day without measurable rainfall, but Salem can beat that. The last day it rained in Salem was July 3rd! Saturday will be day 60 without rain.

Fog type clouds are coming from the north and spreading westward which is an odd direction here in Silverton.

Some more impressive energy than we have seen in quite some time is looking more likely to drop into the Pacific northwest from the Gulf of Alaska late next weekend and early next week for more clouds…cooler temperatures and possibly some wet weather.
46 this morning and rather foggy. However, it’s shallow I can see the blue above.
And just like that the fog is almost gone.

My guess is he’s with the Gorton’s Fisherman. I’m sure we’ll get the latest info on when the Fall storms will hit, when they return!
Low of 41F during a beautiful sunrise with Venus to the east.
I love this Polar Continental air mass. (assuming this is one due to the cooler temps and dry weather)
High of 78F and a tad bit on the humid side later in the evening but not too bad.

Brian, are you going to post the August weather contest results?
I posted them already boydo. Here is the link

I wonder i[f we are in for the same drought the Central Plains had (or are they still having the same high pressure?).
I was right that we were due for a long stretch of dry weather due to our cold and wet spring so this is the opposite end of it.
Warm and Dry.
I logged 43F with the airport was 45F. Not bad for the first start of September. It actually felt good putting me in the *frost* mode.

In are garden. I have only picked three tomatoes, and the corn is short and small still? But nice weather to move a lot of trash out of the 20 yr old shed!
What a weird weather year! This summer started , well not till July 4th, and now that we are looking at 50+ days without measurable rain! Can’t really complain about that. It sure is ending on a fabulous note..but I want sun and temps like this year round!!!!!!!
There is a wonderful place then called San Diego. Plus you’ll be near the famous theme parks and not have to spend an extra 1K on hotel rooms/food and fuel to get there if you already live there! 🙂
Did I mention San Diego has the weather you want YEAR ROUND?
In fact the weather is so nice that when they do get rain people panic and drive like idiots as if it was a major blizzard going on.
People don’t realize they shouldn’t drive so fast nor slam on your brakes during the rain.
I spent a year living there. Well, Oceanside to be exact. Hardly ever below 70, and ever above 85. Of course Oceanside is more coastal. Just a few miles inland gets much warmer and can get chillier nights, in fact one town when I lived there recieved a dusting of snow. Of course the town is a few thousand feet up. And yeah, the rain (which seems to fall mainly in summer) wreaks havoc. It isn’t so much the drivers are idiots ( worse than Cali drivers already are) but the oils and such that surface after such long dry periods, much like here after a spell like we’re seeing now, but the fact they don’t seem to account for the first rain slipperiness.
muxpux…ever go to Juanitas?
Can’t say I have
..little mexican take-out joint real near there… cardiff maybe, and real close to the beach…used to stop there to have mexican food after coming back from mexico….

My tomatoes are still mostly green out here.
Wow, sorry to hear that. I must’ve lucked out. I built a greenhouse that with the help of one other gardener, I can lift off and set to the side. I’ve had ripe ‘maters since July 4th this year. It really helped at the beginning of the season when I couldn’t resist the urge to plant stuff in late April through June. Next year, raised beds with heating elements. If I get all that done, I can almost guarantee ya, (GARRON-TEE-YA) that we’ll have the best summer ever. The more I invest in my garden against the spring weather it seems the better our summers’ are.
I’ve finally begun harvesting mine in earnest. My corn however went insane – 9 feet tall, probably over a hundred ears. I’ve already picked 20 or so, and that barely made a dent!
Harvesting tomorrow.

August averaged 83.26 degrees. The 3rd warmest since 1987.
Here is a chart showing average highs the from 1984 to now.
What about the averaged LOWS, Brian?
That would explain why my garden now seems about average for this time of year or just a little behind. Now maybe next year we’ll have a normal June and July.
For some odd reason the bloggers don’t care about low temperatures.
I guess I am the only one fascinated by them.
