Increased Lightning Strike Frequency

April 12, 2012

I became annoyed enough today to increase the frequency of these lightning strike maps I have produced off our weather system.  They will update once every 5-10 minutes now instead of 45 minutes:

You can exchange the “2” for a “1” or “3” and see two other views.

2nd Strong Storm of Day Over Newberg

Impressive cell on the west side of Newberg and headed quickly north into Western Washington County.  Radar says possible 1/2″ hail with a 65 dbZ core.  Watch out Bald Peak!

Hail Producing T’Storm Heading North

April 12, 2012

Live radar picking up a strong storm nearing Scio & Stayton in the next half hour (east of Salem).  Lots of cloud to ground lightning and it may be producing large hail.

At 3:30pm, this is the only thunderstorm west of the Cascades, but there will be more the next few hours…all moving from south to north around 20 mph.

To follow storms, head to http://www.kptv.com/weather  Then click on INTERACTIVE MAPS on the big radar map.  Clicking on WEATHER, you can add lightning and other overlays too.
