First Thunderstorm of Day: Near Forest Grove

A nice cell just popped up out of nowhere just a couple miles west of Henry Hagg Lake at 4:45pm.  A couple cloud to ground strikes already.  We’ll be keeping an eye on it (and any others that develop) during the 5pm newscast on Fox12.

  7. My GOLU model says SW Metro still has a chance. Looking pretty ominous to my south.

  8. Aloha Rainshadow says:

Sudden Development right over Beaverton in the last two frames of radar, let’s see if this becomes anything!

  9. Kind of an interesting time-lapse with the mid-level instability and clouds. Notice around 1 minute the shift to westerly flow.

  10. Kyle From Silverton says:

Our GOLU model shows loads of clouds and sticky icky conditions but no t-storms as if someone is manipulating science so the circulation is ALWAYS cut off.

  11. Kyle From Silverton says:

God I wish for a Severe T-storm with high winds to test our house.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION – NWS PORTLAND

…PREVIOUS DISCUSSION FOLLOWS…MAJOR BUST HAPPENING IN THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY. ALL THAT REMAINS IS AN AREA OF SHOWERS ALONG THE CENTRAL/NORTH OREGON CASCADES.

    • Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Timmy? It isn’t a bust when we had only a 5-10% chance in PDX metro. As I said earlier if it is a 40-50+% chance and nothing occurs(Snow, Wind, Lightning, etc) THEN that can be called a bust. We were never expecting or saying storms were likely in PDX.

    • Mike near Clackamas Town Center says:

To me it isn’t a bust if most of us thought Portland didn’t have much a chance to see any t-storms today 🙂

    • Timmy_Supercell (Klamath Falls @ 4200') says:

LOL I just wanted to have some fun! I do know that I’m not going to have any storms so I’m kinda bored.

    • Austin (Cornelius) says:

      Again Timmy….WHY SO NEGITORY?!?!?!?! >: (

    • Kyle From Silverton says:

The last few years is enough proof for me that someone is manipulating our storm chances because we have had perfect conditions which nothing formed and less then perfect conditions and we score.

I bet the times we score is when the manipulator is not around to check for glitches in the weather system and then tech support patches up the holes.

    • Brad says:

Timmy, you’re holding on too tightly bud.

  13. Ben Randall says:

Here’s the stupid question of the day but what in the heck is GOLU model

  14. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

I just took a good look at the sky and clouds outside and I do see some destabilization taking place. Also now have light NW winds…. We are very close to seeing storms develop, but I just doubt it.

  15. 78 today for the high, so much cooler, but it felt more humid. However, the dewpoints are only in the low 50s, but after the upper 30s and low 40s of yesterday, it’s a muggy change.

On another note, I’ve never seen this message on my Weatherlink before and I found it interesting:

  16. muxpux says:

  17. 0402 says:

Getting rained on in Forest Grove next to this cell.

  18. Austin (Cornelius) says:

When could the next chance of thunderstorms be?

    • Austin (cornelius) says:

      For*

    • pappoose in scappoose says:

Secondary to the modern day genius status attributed to me by Mr. “Wrath”, my suggestion is to be relentlessly on watch this eve.

  19. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Be back later if anything fires.

  20. Austin (cornelius) says:

    Another rumble of thunder.
    Oh so awsome!!! 😀

T-storm along south Washington Cascades now.

  23. AlohaWeather says:

The cell has just gotten stronger again! Keeping fingers crossed.

  24. Brian says:

I’ve got 74 degrees 64% hum, wind is out of the south slightly west. Overhead movement is heading east and slightly south. I can’t see that cell but my north exposure is blocked by trees. I’m west of Carlton. Bring on the boom!

  25. Cherie in Vernonia says:

AT 455 PM PDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
THUNDERSTORM 6 MILES NORTHWEST OF CHERRY GROVE…OR ABOUT 20 MILES
WEST OF HILLSBORO. THIS THUNDERSTORM WAS NEARLY STATIONARY. LOCATIONS
IMPACTED BY THIS THUNDERSTORM THROUGH 600 PM PDT INCLUDE RURAL
WESTERN WASHINGTON COUNTY. SMALL HAIL…HEAVY RAIN…GUSTY WINDS UP
TO 30 MPH…AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING CAN BE EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS.

  26. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Forest Grove storm weakening… Ahhhh it figures.

    Go Mavs!

  27. Runrain says:

The GOLU model has this as a classic thunderstorm type day.

    • Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

No kidding! I just mowed our back lawn and it is a bit muggy(Texas people laugh out loud), but it really is!

  28. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

    Yay!

  29. AlohaWeather says:

Is it heading for Aloha? Cause im getting my video camera ready!

    • Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

It looks like extremely slow southeastward movement to me.

  30. pappoose in scappoose says:

Hope there’s a lot where that came from.

  31. pappoose in scappoose says:

Hope there’s a lot more brewing up.
