Snow Cover on Satellite

This is a great (but huge) image from the Terra satellite taken late this morning.  Look closely, you can see the leftover snow in southern Clark County, and even leftovers from the swath of showers that went through SW-NE Portland yesterday.  And of course the heavy snow from Woodland to Longview shows up real nicely.  Click on it (several times) for a REALLY large view!

Well I’ve been stuck at 20 here in Silverton for about 45 minutes. I’m not complaining though. I’m in a good position to make a run at the mid teens. I just want to hit 19 before midnight. The cold spots in the greater Salem area right now are Sublimity at 15 and Silver Falls State Park at 14.

  2. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

I wonder if tonight’s 00Z EURO begins to move towards the GFS if Mark then lowers temps on his 7day. I sure do not see any 50’s or maybe even 40’s anytime soon. 00Z is very close to 2-3 snow events for PDX too….

  3. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

That east wind doesn’t want to quit tonight. I see PDX/TTD-DLS are back over -3mb…. I really hope it dies off soon.

    Temp: 23.5
    Dewpoint: 5
    Wind: NE @ 8.7

  7. Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

Never have seen snow like this at the beach.

I estimate Ilwaco saw about 1/2-1″, Long Beach 1-2″, Ocean Park 2″, and Oysterville/Leadbetter 4-5″.

After snow/graupel showers on Thursday, the skies cleared at times and the sun and the snow was beautiful!

The roads were rather slick on Thursday morning and even caught me off guard…as I slid through one intersection, despite using my gears to slow down and only going about 15 mph…Was interesting to watch the car in front of me slide sideways to the curb when stopped at another light.

    • Timmy_Supercell (Klamath Falls @ 4200') says:

Beautiful photos Tyler! One thing I missed about Portland was the trees. Considering how bare the land is in Klamath Falls, I just can’t ask for views like that. I look forward to more of your pictures.

Persistence..cold and wet until further notice.

  9. Christiana in Forest Grove says:

I still have snow on my lawn and it is 26 degrees with a dew-point of 13. Considering it was 24 last night something tells me it is going to be a cold night.

    ME LIKEY!
WHILE CONVENTIONAL WISDOM FOR THE REGION SUGGESTS A
QUICK CHANGEOVER TO RAIN AT LOW ELEVATIONS WITH SOUTHERLY NEAR
SURFACE LEVEL WINDS…MODEL THERMAL PROFILES INDICATE THAT
PRECIPITATION INLAND IS LIKELY TO REMAIN MAINLY SNOW SAT NIGHT INTO
EARLY SUN MORNING. GIVEN THE PERSISTENCE AND CONSISTENCY OF THIS
IDEA WITH THE MODELS…BELIEVE THIS IS A CASE TO GO AGAINST THE
CONVENTIONAL RULES OF THUMB…AND KEEP A THREAT OF LOW ELEVATION
SNOW INLAND VALLEYS UNTIL SUN MORNING. THAT SAID…MARGINAL SURFACE
TEMPS…WHAT ELSE IS NEW…AND GENERALLY LIGHT PRECIPITATION
EXPECTED LIMITS ACCUMULATION POTENTIAL FOR THE VALLEY FLOORS…BUT
    LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS STILL APPEAR POSSIBLE.

Could you please post the 18z gfs at Troutdale again and comment about how “very unusually cold” it looks to mislead the visitors here.

Just one word to describe your post:
      Imbecile!

Let me start posting my own 16 day outlook and pretend its something accurate. Yes, I’ll put snowflakes next to each day over this summer in July and make the lows in the 20’s. I know its not accurate but I’ll go ahead and say it looks “very cold and snowy” just for fun. Fun stuff. No Trolling just fun stuff ya know. I’m sure everyone will love it.

    • Boydo3 500' North Albany says:

Brian, is that yo crib? ( couldn’t resist 😉 )

    • pgiorgio says:

I havent been banned btw. Your assumption is humorous though. Almost as humorous as the data you post and comment on. I’ve really learned the kind of d-bags that frequent this place just from hanging a few months in the winter.

      OCD freaks and geeks mostly.

    • WOW….Maybe someday everyone will grow up. This is crazy to see such childish behavior from grown adults. I seriously cannot believe this is the best way you could find to spend your time. I seriously recommend a hobby, some friends, get out a little. Take that same time you just spent to write such a ridiculous reply and do some good. Unbelievable!!!!!

    • pgiorgio says:

Oh I’m sorry, you post the highs in Minnesota. I thought you lived in the Portland area. Someone just told me. I must apologize.
…. and all this time I really thought you were a complete idiot

    • pgiorgio says:

WOW, another Battle Ground guy. So sorry you got no snow this winter. Go cry to your therapist about how your life was ruined this winter from all the sadness of no snow.

    • …I love it when posts spark something decipherable as intelligent communication; this, however, is not…

    • jackfrost (beaverton) says:

Holy crap your a prick! Go fall trip over a shovel or something.

    • Mark Nelsen says:

Uh-oh, is someone drinking and posting again??? I thought I talked about that a week or so ago?

    • pgiorgio says:

You posted one sentence Larry and you really fcked it up.

    • bgb41 says:

Actually I got over 8″ of snow this winter now at my house. I often think of your situation Pgiorgio when I see you on here. What kind of person hangs out on a blog and trolls people over 2000 miles a way for shyts and giggles? You must have a really crappy life to hang out on here and try to cause trouble. I guess if you had any education maybe you could produce some weather programs and share them with people. I am guessing you never made it past Junior High School the way you act.

    • pgiorgio says:

Mark, I’m good now for the night.

    • pgiorgio says:

I’m not on here much bgb. You wouldnt know the difference though because this is your life and you assume everyone is like you. Thats sad. You’ll be visiting a weather blog in June when the weather is as exciting as watching glue dry.

    • bgb41 says:

Thanks Mark..I appreciate you spending what little free time you have babysitting the adult children on this blog.

    • I didn’t realize weather could set someone off, maybe they have a pill for that?

    • pgiorgio says:

      Thanks Mark….

Funny how you act as if you’re never a problem when people get irritated with your posts. You’re always a civilized adult and the children arent acting right. Mark is warning the children for you big guy. Go have a wet dream about it nerd

    • marcus5day says:

I think he is just upset cause he is posting from the Larch Mtn Facility and can’t get out to see the snow.

    • MomOf2Kiddos says:

Some people are making this blog look like a rude and unwelcome place to visit. Please stop.

    • bgb41 says:

I am sorry your life sucks Pgiorgio. Maybe you need to go get your G.E.D. or H.S diploma so you can finally be an adult like the rest. I have a feeling your double digit IQ is going to hurt you bro.

  20. Tyler Mode in Battle Ground says:

    25.5 here…still a NNE wind 5-10 mph.

  21. Brad says:

My in depth 00z analysis: Meh.

    • Andrew Johnson says:

There are several borderline snow events on the 00z. Or cold rain, but that barclonic band on monday morning could be our first shot. Heavy precip with winds going calm and 850mb temps in the -5C range or so. In mid winter that would be almost a sure bet, we’ll have to see. Then the low that comes in on the S Coast and then shoots NE wrapping cold air into the back side of it…Hope that trend continues.

    • Brad says:

Snow and rain mix…maybe. Hopefully future runs will trend colder.

  22. chiefWright says:

Don’t need a fancy guage to know it’s gonna be cracking cold and dry tonight! Air is still, 26 degF, and starting to drop like a rock. Everything will be frozen solid tonight.

  23. blowmedown says:

Tonight’s 00Z is looking very good so far people!

  24. Wendy-Silverlake,WA says:

19.9, just dropped into the teens. Come on single digits!!!

  25. Joshua in Lake Oswego says:

    25.5 here. Incredible!
