Record Cold Day

We only hit 57 at PDX today due to the late morning arrival of the rain and thick (very thick!) cloud cover.  That’s the coldest May 28th (high temp) on record.  Last year we hit 86 degrees on this date…

I spent a couple hours down at the Waterfront at the opening of the Rose Festival Fun Center.  Whew…it’s going to turn into a mucky mess soon if the rain doesn’t stop.  Strong northwest flow is sending moisture on south out of Washington.  Models seemed to handle this well, with about a quarter inch so far here in the city and heavier totals to the north and east.  I expect .75-1.00″ before it’s over in the Cascade foothills.  Just another May soaking apparently.  We should crack the “top 5″ of May rainfall tonight at PDX, passing the 4.30” mark soon.

Much better conditions tomorrow afternoon and Sunday (wow…2 dry days???).  We haven’t seen two consecutive dry days in two weeks!  But don’t breathe a sigh of relief yet…more soakings next week for the first week of June.

Brian has the correct answer actually though no offense to RunRain. :)You will see TCU usually in the remarks section of a metar reportl.

What does TCU represent (or stand for). I saw it earlier on a post from Kyle.

    • Battle Ground Brian says:

      Towering Cumulus

It stands for OSU’s first football lose this fall, unfortunately. At least they get to play in the new Cowboys Stadium!

Another great weather day for running along Marine Drive. I noticed that the north runway is now closed for phase 2 of its lengthening.

    • PDX Weather Nut says:

      TCU = Texas Christian University

  5. Spotty clouds right now, no bad in Beaverton, could be worse!

  6. Kyle says:

Doing the BBQ under the carport this year 😦

  9. Wish we had radar today. Alas. So far no precip here since this morning. Very breezy though – looks like gusts to 20mph at both HIO and PDX. 67.6 currently.

camping wasnt all that bad. we were out past Lees Camp, on Jordan Creek Road. saturday was decent, yesterday was nice until around 3 or so then it started raining, and didnt stop til later in the night, this morning was the nicest day, go figure, haha.

  12. 65.8 here – it’s pretty pleasant. Warm sun shining, a hint of moisture from all the remnant wetness evaporating, and a nice breeze too right now. Great walk with the dog – and happy to have a window open letting fresh air in now.

  13. Jim in N. Tabor says:

Anybody know a good radar to use for the PDX area ? Accu has been down all day.

    • Unfortunately, it’s all connected to one single radar site – the NWS radar is what all other sites key into.

That said – I thought KGW had their own radar system that was a good backup for these instances. However, not seeing that anymore?

could be a nice day for instability perhaps?

the sheer lack of any sunny days is really interesting to me too. Is there any chance we are severely substandard, in the solar department, than we normally are? I can count on one hand how many actual “sunny” days we’ve had since March 1st. Just wondering if we’re cloudier than normal, or if I and my tomatoes are just imagining that?
