Just got in and looked over the weather maps, radar, satellite etc…if you have outdoor plans cancel them for this evening…yuck!
Significantly better tomorrow afternoon and Sunday, then back to “sluggy” weather again on Memorial Day itself.

THE BASICS:
Commenting on this blog is open to anyone with an interest in or fascination with weather. Here at FOX-12 we're happy to provide you a space to "geek out" with fellow Pacific Northwesterners. But please don't abuse the privilege.
1. POSTING LINKS/VIDEO:
It's okay to insert video or pictures, as long as the link points to something appropriate for the general public. No politics, obscenity, etc...
2. CHOOSE A NAME ONCE:
Choose a name or identification once and stick with it. The very first time you comment it is held for moderation. After it's approved, that EXACT name will be allowed to comment at any time. Note that this applies to your IP address too. So using the same name but on Grandma's computer will require a one-time hold as well. This keeps the spam out.
3. NO PROFANITY:
This is pretty obvious, but avoid being rude or taunting others too.
4. NO RACISM, OR VIOLENT THREATS:
This will get you kicked off quickly. Please report this to me at mark.nelsen@kptv.com if it happens here.

I don’t think we’ll have a “pineapple express” type set up next week. Energy is lacking this time of year. But it sure doesn’t look good for the first of June.
Larry expressed it right.
I’m thinking of a big room with heat lamps, sand, wave sounds in the background. Maybe some coconuts and palm trees. Drink with an umbrella swizzle stick in it. Banana scented sun screen. Ummm……
Or maybe just a plane ticket to Hawaii.
The models are insisting on the closest thing we can get to a pinapple express this time of year. I think it’s fair to call it one. The setup is textbook.
Everyone can come visit me in Oklahoma. Sunny, isolated PM T-Storms with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s for the foreseeable future. The pool at my apartment opened up last weekend too. 🙂
…I know where there’s a lime tree….in Belize….
Back then did they have words like “Pineapple express” or *shortwaves* to describe more detail?
It has been just dry, cloudy and cool here all day. 56.5F
I’m posting a bunch of collectible stuff on ebay this evening, including a 1945 publication put out by the U.S. Weather Bureau, explaining how it determined forecasts back then. How times and technology have changed!
At least our “Very Wet!” days next week will be in the mid – 60’s. Its freakin’ 48 degrees outside right now! Oh, and did I mention its still raining..?
Just think how much we will be wishing for rain if we get a week of 100F+ weather with no relief at night during the summer….
I wouldn’t mind if it rained once a week in the summer, just to settle the dust! Problem is, when we get a dry streak going, it can last a while, even here.
When the first big rains fall in September and October, it’s such a relief…cleansing the air!
The difference between 2 weeks straight of rainy weather now, and 2 weeks in November, is that we have already been through and entire winter of rain/clouds (although it was rather dry this winter). In November, it’s expected and we are coming off of sunnier months!
I ran away to AZ for a week of 80 degree spring training weather in March so I could get through our remaining wet season and even THAT wasn’t enough! I must be getting old!
if we get a week of 100 degree weather this summer I’ll be really shocked, we’re over due for a wet and colder than usual one IMO
Well, the good news is that we can never complain about the rain in Portland. That’s because it will never stop and therefore there will be nothing to complain about because it will never get better! Yes, I’m giving up. It is truly Armegedon. All you have to do is look at that radar loop if you don’t believe it!!
So far just a couple sprinkles down here. Nothing recorded in the rain bucket. 57.8F and mostly cloudy.
what a miserable day here in Longview, been wet, cold and windy all day. makes it hard to convince friends that camping should be halfway decent this weekend. one bright spot, maybe itll keep some of the rookies at home, haha
damn wet gray cool sky
may flowers turning to mush
insert expletive
Perhaps your best yet!
Like! 🙂
damn right!!! I so concur. I have flowers that will never recover, and tomatoes that are trying to get ripe, but are the size of the fruit flies trying to eat them!
Damn, headed to Bend this weekend where the NWS just lowered the Sunday high by almost 10 degrees without any mention of why in the AFD.
Grrr…
Who can’t hit the button back in the studio! Mark suffering in the rain lol 🙂
And slogging around in the Rose Festival mud.
hey it wasn’t my fault!
Based on our month-to-date rain totals and then tonight and Monday, I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up the 2nd or 3rd rainiest May – I hope we don’t break that 5.55 amount from 1998!
Better enjoy the next couple of days (well, at least Sunday anyway), cause there is more rain (lots of it on the models) coming up next week…
Cool, 52.4° (maybe close to a record low high for this date?)….0.24″ rain
I know some of you say that Portland is not in the top 5 for rain or cool temperatures but if youre fairly close say top 10 all time that should be enough to say, “HEY, this is one cool and rainy month of May.” .. For those who are waiting for summer like days that is enough for some sympathy in my opinion.
I should make a graphic about that!
Good grief next Wednesday and Thursday looks like a pineapple express. Pouring rain and temps in the mid 60s.
yep, SW flow, heavy rain
jet stream pointed right at us
If it were about five degrees warmer than that, I might get a kick out of the quasi-tropical nature of it all.
haha yea that is for sure, would feel like Phillipines
Any potential to have some embedded t-storms with the heavy rain coming through?
nope, no instability at all 😦
Check out central Oklahoma. A dying shower/storm produces a nice and very visible outflow. Usually these are more visible on radar, but this time it shows up on the visible satellite.

Been pouring all afternoon here in central Clark County. Northern sections of Vancouver have been seeing training precip while places down near the river are just getting drizzle. Up to 0.51″ of rain now on the day.
I hope Sunday’s forecast requires no altering – partly sunny, warmer, highs 70 to 75. One bright spot. I’ve got tennis planned…who knows how long until the next dry day.
Oh yeah. THE Wind has been from the south most of the day and now a Wshft to the W/SW.
I wish we had some heat and T-storms combo.
58F after a high of 62F at high noon! Kind of a light drizzle.
Let’s all head to the KPTV weather bar: 🙂
16 day just looks awful
Keep it north, please! Been pretty nice so far today. Yesterday wasn’t bad either.
Glad I’m on a boat for the fireworks tonight !
