A Busy & Stormy Day!

The Portland and Pendleton radars are working overtime right now…a ton of storms popping up over the Cascades and eastside.  One is a severe thunderstorm in Morrow/Gilliam county right now.  In general they are all  looking much better than 1 hour ago.  A good place to watch (but you are at our mercy on the view) is our live streaming radar mentioned on the last post.  At 3:45pm I see three nice looking cells between Salem and Albany firing up.  This may be along the edge of a marine push coming in from the west.  Sometimes that initial push helps lift the warmer/moist air ahead of it.  Something to keep an eye on as it heads northeast into the metro area this evening.    Good times!

Quite dry over over in Fairview. Lots of dark clouds but hardly any moisture. Just some wind.

  3. Aleta-West Gresham says:

It appears at the moment everything is kind of going around me. I am getting spitting sprinkles now and again but the roads aren’t even damp.

    • Sarah (E. Gresham) says:

I was just thinking the same thing. There’s all sorts of rain out there….but NONE of it here!

Interesting back building of storms right over PDX Airport…

  8. Eternal yamcha says:

Mile east of mt. Talbert. Wind is roaring at 700 feet. The huge wall of rain hitting milwaukie area looked impressive. At location right now.

  9. Brenda E. Vancouver says:

    Finally hearing some thunder.

  10. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Nice looking cell over Vancouver and just northeast of Camas/Washougal

Just had two good rumbles of thunder. No rain yet.

  12. Karen in Camas says:

    Spoke too soon…..thunder in Camas.

  13. stevied (North Portland) says:

Nice cells popping up right over PDX. Nothing amazing, but getting some decent rain and gusts here in North Portland.

    • dabears (Hillsboro-Tanasbourne) says:

Listening to the tower ATC feed from PDX now. Sounds like it might be causing a little trouble. Tower is warning incoming aircraft of “extreme” precipitation over the airport.

  14. Karen in Camas says:

Just had a serious pour down here in Camas….no thunder or lightning.

  15. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

    Impressive marine push

    My house: 71.1
    Aurora: 62
    Salem: 55

    • Sandi (Wilsonville) says:

The wind has a definite nip to it. You can feel the rain coming in close, but it’s only been a few light sprinkles here this afternoon.

    • Snow-Zone/Monmouth-Elv200' says:

      55.4F here to.

Only heard the one rumble so far…

  18. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Possible t-storm near Brush Prairie and just west of Camas.

    • Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

      Pfttttt it they weakened.

    • Justin (Brush Prairie) says:

Nope. Radar would have you believe it’s raining pretty sharply, but there’s nothing and certainly no thunder.

    • Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Looks like it just barely went east of you, the heavy shower that is.

  19. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

Via e-mail lightning was reported in the Aloha/Hillsboro area. Cloud to cloud I assume.

  20. Kyle says:

    Drizzle and/or light rain evening:

  21. Kyle says:

I predict a drizzily/light rain evening and no thunder:

My instincts KNEW this would happen as soon as the winds started switiching to the west and everything happening much to fast:

    • dabears (Hillsboro-Tanasbourne) says:

You’re already wrong, so not really sure what you’re talking about.

  22. umpire says:

Has become dark with a bit of breeze in downtown PDX. No precipitation falling as of yet, however.

  23. Timmy_Supercell (Hillsboro) says:

There is a strong looking cell overhead at my location and all I am having is light rain. It definitely is elevated in nature and looks like the chances of hearing any thunder is below 10%. Maybe not lame in my book but close.

    • dabears (Hillsboro-Tanasbourne) says:

It looks like the brunt of the cell is just barely scraping to our east. Still raining pretty good here though. Big drops, my favorite kind of rain.

  24. cgavic says:

getting thunder, rain at 1,100 ft in sandy.

    currently 64 degs.

  25. Justin (Brush Prairie) says:

No lightning anywhere to be found. All this stuff is elevated and weak. Lame

  26. W7ENK says:

    Just heard thunder from this:

Probably over Lake Oswego area, passing to my West toward Downtown/Sylvan.

  27. Rob "Wrath" S.E. Portland says:

I think this is about as good as it’s going to get as quickly as instability is diminishing.

  28. Ryan (Walnut Grove) says:

Looks like Vancouver is going to get missed. :-/
