Happy Easter

Sorry about the early rain down the Valley…it’s going to be a gloomy day.

Several of you commented about problems during the Sunday AM newscast…well, today is the start of a new automated news production system at FOX-12. It’s called IGNITE. You may remember 2-3 years ago when KOIN started up the same system there were major issues (remember Bruce talking and no one could hear him?). We hope to avoid too many of the same problems.

We didn’t make any major changes with weather graphics, just some new banners/fonts etc…

Hopefully my job won’t be automated too???

Chief Meteorologist Mark Nelsen

  1. Hmmmmm…………Let’s see.

    ***Already lost 1 unmbrella last summer to the wind now today it’s ANOTHER one {It was in the stowed position also btw}
***2 of my trees are showing signs of ground separation worsening with every gust
***Wifes Mini-Greenhouse almost got knocked over again. {After I put about 110lbs of extra weight in it from the last wind spree the other day.

This has all happened for the most part since about 10:00 this morning.

It doesn’t look all that favorable for storms anymore. Everybody is clouded up pretty much, and radar is filling in with mainly green. Things are not nearly as isolated as they were this morning.

Nice line west side of PDX. This area is of particular interest for very strong winds. I believe it is the frontal band ahead of the low.

I would not at all be surprised if there are local gusts to 50+mph. Already has been a 53mph gust in Forest Grove.

    Exciting AMS Announcement!

    Members of the media:
Advancing this event via print, web and television is greatly appreciated!

We have an exciting announcement to make at this Thursday’s Oregon AMS (American Meteorological Society) meeting concerning our Executive Council lineup for 2010/2011! Here is a hint — our 2010/2011 season is going to be unlike any we have experienced in recent memory! Again, the formal announcement will be made this Thursday night at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Clackamas during our monthly meeting. Don’t miss it! We also have a great headlining guest speaker (retired Meteorologist, George Miller) scheduled for the meeting.

Whether you are an Oregon AMS member or not, please join us this Thursday evening. Spouses, significant others and general public are also welcome to attend this annual dinner meeting! I look forward to personally seeing all of you there! Happy hour starts at 6:30pm with the meeting at 7pm! If you choose to eat dinner with us as well, please note the menu options and deadlines.

  21. W7ENK says:

Winds over the past 10 or 15 minutes have not been as strong as they were. Light shower moving in now, I wonder if that will push any more wind down?

I’m headed to Sellwood now. I think I’ll reset my anemometer to see what the next peak is?

  22. Andy-Aloha-200ft says:

Number of outages in Washington County jumped from 95-680ish in about 5 minutes. Very gusty in Aloha right now.

  23. Not surprised about the strong winds in the Metro area. Both the wind-cast and cross-section models were showing it a few days ago…

    49.2F…Wind gusts to 25 mph…0.06″ rain..

  24. Brandon in NW Suburbia says:

At home, I usually have winds that just skirt the tree tops…I’m actually pretty sheltered at the surface (esp south winds). Such is not the case today.
