Labor Day Laugh

September 4, 2009

This is a good one, sent to me by Jim Little.  Remember that he was in Portland television for about 22 years, at KGW, KATU, and KOIN.  He works for the Oregon Department of Foresty in Salem nowdays.

Professor may face jail if LA weatherman harassed

Sep 3, 3:08 PM (ET)

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) – Authorities say a college professor on a crusade to change the way a Los Angeles weatherman uses terminology has to leave him alone or face six months in jail. Melanie Patton Renfrew, a Harbor College teacher, wants KNBC-TV’s Fritz Coleman to change references to onshore and offshore winds.

She says the terms are confusing because people don’t know which are coming and which are going.

Burbank-based KNBC obtained a restraining order in March 2008 after calling her behavior bizarre and saying Coleman feared for his safety.

Prosecutors say she continued sending letters and e-mails. Last month, she pleaded no contest to violating the order.

Burbank Assistant City Attorney Denny Wei says the case will be dismissed if she leaves Coleman alone through next August.

Busy Weather Weekend Ahead

September 4, 2009

Does this scream “convection” to you?  Cold upper level low (for the first week of September), strong westerly wind at mid-upper levels, southerly wind at the surface (rotation?), and widespread high CAPE values from NW Oregon up through Western Washington.  Looks like Sunday could be a little crazy with heavy showers, some thunderstorms, and a classic setup for funnel clouds too.  These will be the quick-moving “spring-type” thundershowers that come from the west, not the fun summertime southerly storms.  But keep your eyes open Sunday!  More later…junk, jpg
