Big Warm Up On Track

A brief post tonight due to working on some graphics, plus making vacation plans.  Very important stuff.

Well, the ECMWF came a bit towards the GFS today, so we got rid of the 85 degree temp on Monday.  But the GFS also seems to be a bit unsure about the Sunday outlook too.  Right now I’d figure about 77 based on the GFS.  The ECMWF has been slower with the breakdown of the ridging, so we’ll leave the 7 Day forecast as it is for now.

    70F here and mostly clear.

  2. Aloha Rainshadow says:

Yeah Phil, interesting, looking at the sat pic, i don’t see anything. Could be flak, there’s been military activity out this way (westside) over the past week, had 6 blackhawk’s do a low alt fly over earlier this week, heard a few fighter jets as well.
Maybe it’s geese getting confused and heading south again for Mayctober.

    • Punxsutawney (aka HIO Phil at work by Sunset High ~280') says:

      Yeah,

I heard the F15’s yesterday I think. Couldn’t see anything in the muck of course, but could tell they had the afterburners on for a few seconds.

Weird Radar echoes south of Salem. I wonder if that is more flak, though why it would start around Salem seems odd.

1.15″ in the rain gauge yesterday here in Longview. Also, the high was 50º and the record lowest high was 52º.

  5. 53.9F…light WNW wind….0.65″ rain yesterday.

A few showers today then the drier, warmer weather kicks in..Dry spell may not last too long, as rain may start as early as Monday night as the ridge breaks down.

Upper 70’s sure does sound good though…

  6. Dennis Bryson says:

Mark…Is the rumor correct that you are going to appear at the Corbett Fire Department Breakfast on June 13, 2009 to flip pancakes. Contact me by e-mail so we can discuss, thanks Dennis Bryson

  7. Tyler in Hazel Dell says:

Not even 8 AM and already today has held more sunshine than yesterday. Temps are mild, currently at 57 already. GFS pushes back the moisture for Monday now, keeping us cooler, but not necessarily wet. Since we have reached our May rainfall average already, any rainfall from here on out is just extra.

  8. Tetraforce says:

Not much wind here but there is a steady shower moving thru and I have logged 0.63 starting yesterday midna morning. (mid morning)

  9. 0.41″ of rain from this last storm. Currently a mild 53.3° and calm winds.

  10. Rob "Wrath" - Elevation 300' -Far S.E. Portland- says:

Okay seriously, is there some kind of surface development going on that we are unaware of? The winds now are very gusty to where they can be heard a slight roar….. I’m gusting 33-36mph now.

    • Rob "Wrath" - Elevation 300' -Far S.E. Portland- says:

      Really? same here….

    • Rob "Wrath" - Elevation 300' -Far S.E. Portland- says:

Hmmmm 1002mb low moving onto the North/Central Washington Coast…. Well that explains it.

  11. Rob "Wrath" - Elevation 300' -Far S.E. Portland- says:

Mark, thanks for the update…. Looking forward to the warmer weather.

Hmmm I’m now receiving my strongest S-SW winds. Both PDX-EUG and OLM-EUG are at their strongest gradient too.

  12. Andrew - Ellensburg, WA and Portland, OR says:

We currently have some minor flooding happening here in Ellensburg, WA. The yakima river is starting to overflow its banks along I-90. The snow level has also dropped down below 3,000 feet now, very strange weather for this time of year.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool that Derek Masingale got out of his vehicle to lend the cops a hand at removing some storm debris off the road… He is the one in Arkansas almost to the Missouri state line. As for weather here… pretty darn cold today, though it seems my temp has risen tonight, it’s back up to 52.0. Total rainfall today is .66 inches

  14. oregonwxguy says:

I guess that makes me second?? Hmmm… Does the local AMS chapter ever hold any meetings further south than the Portland Metro area? I’m a couple hours south of PDX and with work and such, getting to a 6pm meeting is pretty tough. If there was a meeting, even once or twice a year (with a really fun weather topic) that was held in the Salem area, I could make it.

  15. KE7DKG in Forest Grove (Ben) says:

Check http://www.severestudios.com They are streaming some of the chasers in the midwest right now.
