Wind “Meeting” Today

If you want to feel 70-90 mph wind gusts just for fun, a few of us are getting together to "feel the wind" out at Crown Point near Corbett at 3pm today.  I have a feeling we won't last long with a windchill in the teens.  But anyone else is invited.  It'll be a beautiful, but brutal afternoon out there.  Just get off exit #22 at Corbett, head up the hill to the old highway, then go east about 2 miles.  I'll be in a Prius or 4Runner.  I doubt many other humans will be there, so it shouldn't be hard to find us.

Early this morning I recorded a gust of 67 mph. Once daylight hit the destruction was everywhere. The kids’ big play structure had even been blown over! (Mind you, this is one of those huge “costco” ones.)

  2. Richard (Derek's Dad)) says:

About 15 minutes ago, I observed a gust of 56.7 MPH here at S.E. 160th and Burnside.

    Hi All:
Just echoing my fellow eastsider’s. This WIND is crazy. Power out up here around 4:00pm. LUCKILY it came back on about 5:00pm. Per PGE there were 2790 customers without power. Lived out here 35 of my almost 40 years and cannot remember wind blowing like this!!!!!!!! Neighbors heavy duty barbeque fell through his deck fencing and onto the ground about 15ft. He told us that it weighs about 300 pds and has never really even moved in the wind before. He has been in our neighborhood about 10 years. Power continues to flicker. Generator ready. 🙂

woulda been nice to have a news crew at CP instead of looking for fluries on the Sylavan overpass like they usually do. Where’s Geraldo when you need him? Answer: Al Capones bank?

Mike (Orchards), yeah it seems a good portion east of I-205 is indeed near/at High Wind warning criteria. The wind is absolutely roaring now. I do not see sleeping tonight being very feasible at this point.

High Wind Warnings for the gorge/wind advisories for East Portland/Gresham/points east of I-205…If gusts are reaching 58mph in the Troutdale/Gresham area, that should meet the criteria for a HWW in those areas I would think?
Believe me, I was not getting out of my vehicle up at the Point…..watching people fight the wind was almost comical if not downright dangerous…

Mike, earlier Tyler from the Blog recorded 87mph I believe. So it’s easy to assume 85-90+mph

One fun “ride” at Crown Point this afternoon. My truck felt like it was going thru a magnitude 8.0 earthquake…..The river looked liked the Pacific Ocean with all the wind generated waves…Wife was nervous, but I think she enjoed it all…Wondered what the gentleman holding the wind meter was recording on it (have not met anyone here in person on this blog) but it has to be 60-70 mph+….Even getting gusts here to 20!!
