Winter Weather (and Chemtrails)

Snapshot  Well, it was good to meet a bunch of you at the meeting today.  I caught a few others out of the corner of my eye but we can't all talk to everyone.  A good meeting with lots of info.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression this is one of those years that no one REALLY has a good idea of what might happen.  No El Nino, no La Nina.  No clear signal of any sort except that it's been a dry Fall so far.  You can check out the presentations on the Oregon AMS Meetings Page.  I did the first presentation, looking back on a year of exciting weather.  Lots of interesting graphs and charts, some of which you've seen on this blog in the past year.  You can find that on the same page or right here.

The highlight for me was a woman asking (in front of 160 people) what I thought of the government cover up of chemtrails.  I instantly received a headache and thought of Art Bell.  Don't get me wrong, I watched almost every episode of the X-Files and, (farther back), might believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens…but please, no chemtrails!!!

All in all there were good times today!  It's possible that next year's meeting will be on a Saturday, which would probably work much better for lots of you that have non-weather jobs and can't get out of work.

Slow weather this weekend, no changes.  Dying front sags over us later tonight and tomorrow, then strong offshore flow Sunday and Monday.  MAYBE some rain late next week, so enjoy the sunshine this weekend.  It'll give you a chance to read up on the latest in Government Secrecy too…Mark Nelsen

    have a question
is this right now a time of year where east winds can help out bringing snow level down or not yet?

Playing for a talent team doesn’t make you a talented player. 😉 Batum will be good but I look at him like Outlaw. He’s 19 and has a lot of development to go through before he really becomes a regular starter type. I’d rather Batum come off the bench but until that day comes hopefully he’s a surprise.
Weather Meetings: Sooo many fantastic McMenamins around to to chose from! Also Deschutes Brewery. 🙂
Weather Related: 18Z keeps the cold moist air alive long term. Pretty breezy as well. I’m lovin that.

Thanks Lurvy for clearing the issue up. It’s really hard to deal with sarcasim online or offline in this crazy world LOL. :O
    Sunspots:
I clicked on a topic and skipped to the last page where somebody mentioned a group of sunspots appeard but they burned out faster then that.
I skipped ahead cause most posts go to h e double hocky sticks.

That’s odd! My comment was down below TV Weather producer so it made it look like no one posted this evening AT ALL!. ??????????????????

Well, it looks like Hillsboro managed 70 today, one of the warm spots around town. It seems like most years we get one late 70 degree reading after mid October out here. This one is later than most. That’s probably the last 70 degree temp we see this year anywhere around town.
Batum would not be getting the start if he was incapable, someone else would be there. But if Webster was healthy, no question Batum would be on the bench.

  14. luvry (in tanasbourne) says:

HAHA, Phil I try not to be to sarcastic on here if at all possible…problem with blogs is you can’t hear saracasm…so it doesn’t always show up and may be misconstrued…
Ryan, nonetheless, Batum is starting on one of the premier teams in the league with a LOT of talent, whether or not he is forced into the position, he still put himself in a spot to be that starter…a lot of people at the beginning of camp didn’t think he’d be ready for NBA play.
As for our weather…It is about to get interesting IMO, the 500mb trough is going to set up in just the right position (progged by the last few model runs) to spin up lows off the coast, whether that will happen is yet to be seen but it IS the type of pattern we have to keep a close watch on. As Steve mentioned in an email, we have to watch the jet speed…to have a bomb in the true sense, we have to have a strong jet coming out of the trough…Fab 5 should be on low alert…no defcon yet…but the heightened sense of awareness should be there 🙂 Ok, that was cheesy…macaroni and cheesy actually…

Ryan, I totally agree with you. I was just reporting what Nate told us this afternoon. He said Travis feels more comfortable coming off the bench so that does leave us with Batum.
On a weather front, The Oregon AMS is now taking suggestions for cool places to hold meetings. If you have a suggestion…please post them !

Batum is the starting SF because he’s the only option…
    Of course Webster is out.
Outlaw is too good on the 2nd unit and no one wants that unit to be broken up right now. So he wasn’t an option.
Moving Sergio to SF makes Portland too small.
So who are we left with? Batum. I don’t think it has anything to do with were he is right now with exception that he is already a good defender and we have no one else to plug in there.
    Okay.. [Sports Rant Off /]

Sorry Rob Martin I will answer your question now. I tend to post something once in a while in between my kids needs, lol. I have been blogging on here off and on for a couple of years now, but don’t blog every day, though I do read faithfully every day. I work in a bank part time now, and stay home with my three children the rest of the time. I stay busy. I have always been a weather nut for as long as I can remember. I am just now learning more about the technical things thanks to the more experienced people on the blog who have taught me a lot. It’s nice to “meet” you, and hopefully we can have another get together that I can attend to as well to help put faces to names. I went to the winter weather meeting last year at the pizza place, and had a lot of fun.
A.W. you don’t need to brainwash me, I am already hoping for those winds!!!

I’m loving the 12Z run. Finally shows some cold weather with -4 in the extended.
Though I’m not excited about 1.16″ of rain it is projecting for Saturday the 8th seeing as I have a PSU football game to attend. That would be a tad bit too moist!
At least the trend is for fall to finally show up.

If I could find a way to hack the Blog to get everyone brainwashed to cheer and root for devastating east wind storms, I would.

To be honest I probably couldn’t hack myself even if there was a big flashing red button that said

Could have been an dynamic IP that wasn’t assigned to the regular user when this clown was posting weird and random stuff. Potentially a hacked IP if it is a static IP.
Seems odd someone would want to hack a weather blog though. We do have some pretty intense people here though. 🙂
Sunny and mild here on Swan Island. Looking forward to the regime change.

Well Matt, the good thing is, based on the WWWBL conference, there is better than average chance for a good arctic outbreak in very late December/January. This pattern is going to be variable all winter…I hope we can score a good pattern when the really cold air is bottled up north…i’d hate to have a couple “near misses” this year.

No kidding Rob M. I go away for half an hour and obviously something was up.
I’m not sure we make 70 out here today. We are running about 5 degrees cooler than yesterday, and not much in the way of wind out here, which I’m not sure if it will help by removing the downslope heating, or hurt by not keeping air from the east moving in. The next couple of hours will be telling.
For sure, it’s gorgeous today. I think all the sun we had the last couple of weeks has helped to bring out the fall colors. No dull grey overcast but bright sunlight to light up the foliage.
