Winter Weather (and Chemtrails)

Snapshot  Well, it was good to meet a bunch of you at the meeting today.  I caught a few others out of the corner of my eye but we can't all talk to everyone.  A good meeting with lots of info.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression this is one of those years that no one REALLY has a good idea of what might happen.  No El Nino, no La Nina.  No clear signal of any sort except that it's been a dry Fall so far.  You can check out the presentations on the Oregon AMS Meetings Page.  I did the first presentation, looking back on a year of exciting weather.  Lots of interesting graphs and charts, some of which you've seen on this blog in the past year.  You can find that on the same page or right here.

The highlight for me was a woman asking (in front of 160 people) what I thought of the government cover up of chemtrails.  I instantly received a headache and thought of Art Bell.  Don't get me wrong, I watched almost every episode of the X-Files and, (farther back), might believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens…but please, no chemtrails!!!

All in all there were good times today!  It's possible that next year's meeting will be on a Saturday, which would probably work much better for lots of you that have non-weather jobs and can't get out of work.

Slow weather this weekend, no changes.  Dying front sags over us later tonight and tomorrow, then strong offshore flow Sunday and Monday.  MAYBE some rain late next week, so enjoy the sunshine this weekend.  It'll give you a chance to read up on the latest in Government Secrecy too…Mark Nelsen

    My winds are NE-E.

Hmmm it looks like the east winds are retreating somewhat back to the Gorge as mine are decreasing as of the past 5 minutes. I’m now reading 15-20mph on my sensor and the temperature is responding accordingly dropping to 53.1 now.

  4. Rob Martin says:

What direction was the wind coming from?

  5. Atmospheric Wrath -Far S.E. Portland- says:

    Hi, Rob.
Yeah winds should slacken as the day progresses with weakening gradients. I too looked at the 12km/4km cross section models and nothing significant showing with even flat/very light onshore conditions tomorrow night-Wednesday.
I’m quite surprised I am still gusting 25-30+ here.
This east wind appears very shallow and confined to the wind favored areas. What really caught me off guard was going from the dead calm at 11:30 PM and 46F to 30+mph at 1:30 AM and temps bumped up to 55.8 F.

Hey Wrath, if you are still up what is your take on winds for the gorge tomorrow?…well today i guess. X-Sections arnt sahowing too much (like 5-10) but with those gradients could we expect more?

  9. Atmospheric Wrath -Far S.E. Portland- says:

    [Surface gradients]
    as of 2 AM
    [PDX-DLS]: -4.6
    [TTD-DLS]: -5.5.
    Definite increase albeit slowly.
Winds still gusting over 30mph here.
Austin, I am not sure what’s going on with the spammer thing. There is nothing I can do about it on my end here, but perhaps Mark or someone can help you if you are still having similar problems.

    What the heck!
I got up to use the potty palace at 11:30 PM and the wind was dead calm.
Just now the wind woke me up with gusts 38-40mph now here.
    I do not understand.
Surface gradients did not reflect any rapid increase that would seem to make this possible.

    yevgeniy beaverton,
We are starting to get into that time of year where the east wind will start to send in cold air…which will in turn….lower the snow level.

Don’t get me wrong, never said Batum was an all-star, or even starter quality…what I said was that he put himself in position to be starting for a VERY talented team, things could not have worked out better for him. He has obviously impressed the coach’s enough to put him on the active roster this year, injuries or not. He could have either been sent back overseas for a year or been “injured”…my whole point was, I’m excited for him, he has a LOT of potential and I think playing with the likes of Roy, Aldridge, and Oden regularly for a month plus can only jump start his career! You GO YOUNGSTER!!!
    Anyways, back to weather.
51.3 here, RH at 53%, DP of 34.7, calm wind…maybe a cool night if high clouds don’t interfere.
