More information coming later, but for now — chat away about this historic storm.

    Nice, Steve! Thanks for sharing

    A little off-topic, but:
I was at the Mac tonight and Jeff Gionola walks by. I said hello and I started talking about my plans for weather in the Navy.
The guy finds me a little bit later to continue the conversation.
So for what its worth, Jeff is an incredibly nice guy.

This rain is relentless up here. Still going strong. Constant yellow/orange/red on the radar. Been going on since 3:00 today.

Funny- I remember a tornado in Eugene
and one near Albany the next day in Nov.
1989. The one in Eugene sheared off about 6 utility poles and uprooted a bunch of trees in a cemetary in South
    Eugene.

*TORNADO UPDATE WITH MAPS AND PICTURES*
Here is my Vancouver Tornado Track Map. Please note, this is an Adobe .pdf file and is a wide view of the Vancouver area. Once downloaded, please use the “zoom tool” and zoom in on Vancouver Lake. As you get closer you will see the red line (track) that I have placed on the map, located on the east side of the lake and heading east from there towards I-5 and beyond. Here is the map:

Here are some great pictures from the scene of the tornado that I took. There are 79 pics here, but they are not full resolution, so they are easy to view. Just click “view as slideshow” and enjoy! Click here for the pics:

Dr Rob I hate to say it but you are right and wrong about this being an exciting winter. Reasons, The windstorm only affect the coasts of OR and WA plus the Coast Ranges like Vernonia. 2. The white christmas is not a complete check I saw snow trying to stick but no cigar. 3. The T-storm was in Vancouver it didn’t even hit Portladn though I do feel bad and excited at the same time about it. So please correct your mistakes. Thanks. Now back to you Mark.

I bet the ice storm will happen end of Jan-early Feb

Tornados are so rare here that
practicing for them seems almost strange??? Maybe teaching kids how to react to an earthquake. I guess it just
goes to show that everyone should be prepared.
My brother who works in Dwtn Vancouver
called me and said that the whole thing was surreal. Hail, very close lightning
and he was staring directly at the
dark (he said the darkest cloud he’s
ever seen) that extended down from the
clouds. He was a bit freaked out.

I guess that is true, Rick. Thanks for sharing a different prespective. I understand now. It is really weird to have a tornado, especially in January of all months!

Tornado- I understand his frustration as I asked my two school aged children, who go to a middle school and elementary school in Felida ‘What did the teachers do?” They told the kids to stay away from the windows. I drove through it and had a thought on what was happening, but when you run through all the scenarios in your mind, tornado in January is somewhere deep in the abyss. My guess is that they had no idea what was going on. I called my wife, who is a teacher in Evergreen to inform her that it was on the way. They had more time to react in east county. Totally out of the blue (or black) with no warning in west Vancouver.
