Back at the Helm

SnapshotA brand new week and a milder weather pattern for the next few days.  A weakening cold front moves inland tomorrow for a very gray day, but not a whole lot of rain involved.  Interesting to note models show a nice wave on the front bringing significant rain to Central and NE Oregon on Wednesday.  That all moves east for Thursday, leading to the first strong ridge of the season over the Western USA.  That ridge is going to be centered over Nevada and Utah, not ON the West Coast.  So we turn warmer, but we will be vulnerable to systems brushing the Northwest.  Highs near 70 or so are likely in this pattern, as opposed to a ridge directly overhead with offshore flow.  That pattern could push us well above 80 degrees this time of year…Mark

    Yeah it sure did Derek…..
    Was a monster.
I was tracking that cell, the one just east of San Angelo, and the cell near Hutchinson, Kansas.
Actually I was watching that from a live feed from a chaser on the ground there…
It was absolutely awesome to be able to sit here and watch the wall cloud, the funnels developing and tornado touching down.
That LP super cell in Kansas had really nice structure and little precip with it.

It isnt funny AKB. I didnt laugh. By the way Rob that thing had a hook echo clear as day. I mean very defined.

Are you guys even aware that San Antonio’s NWS didn’t even issue tornado warning for Eagle Pass?
They only issued a severe t-storm warning for Maverick county EVEN THOUGH I could clearly see just from radar that the storm was spinning AND storm relative velocity showed a very strong couplet or area of rotation signaling a large tornado.
A real shame they lost their lives due to absolutely no warning given even though that cell was producing a tornado long before it got near Eagle Pass, or Piedras Negras, Mexico.
Oh also I have a rant ok?
    Fox12 desperately needs a weekday 5 o’clock news cast….
I watched Zaffino and Hill both at 5:16 PM and 5:50 PM. BOTH of them said those tiny showers on the coast range would not move into the valley and would dissipate.
    They did neither.
They moved east and actually increased in intensity and coverage.
I’m sorry but these are “professionals” with degrees and millions of dollars of technology and they didn’t have any clue about the showers or what they were going to do? Ridiculous……..
I trusted them (Yeah, I know :|) and had outdoor plans which were ruined.
I am very confident if Fox12 had a 5 o’clock news cast they would of nailed this situation.
Looking forward to nicer weather tomorrow and Friday.

o yeah im a real sicko. i was just joking. i was making fun of how you get happy the worse the weather is which means there will usually be more deaths.

  5. Derek-West Gresham says:

Theres a difference between smiling about exciting weather and smiling about it killing somebody.

Kind of steamy here this morning, temps in the mid 60s along with dewpoints at around 62-63. Seems that the warm front has moved a bit farther north than was forecasted last night. So it should be interesting to see what happens today into tomorrow (have a SLGT risk on the Day 2 outlook).

I was hoping Mark had switched the radar so we could watch it ;o). I have a friend who lives just N of Austin.
