Another Quiet Night

Snapshot_8Another busy night in the weather center…well, if that includes critical tasks like remaking the labels in the file cabinet, cleaning up area behind the wall, throwing out old weather maps etc…  Oh, the weather itself is REALLY slow.  Nice little inversion has developed trapping pollutants in the lowest 2000′ of the atmosphere.  One change this evening is that a weak easterly flow has developed through the Gorge.  It’s 2 millibars PDX-DLS at 10pm, if it exceeds 4 millibars that should be enough to get rid of most of the muck across the metro area by midday or so tomorrow.   00z MM5 brings precip inland with a dying system Thursday, our RPM model and 00z NAM does not.  I’m very thankful that it’s not 25-30 degrees the next 2 days.  No one cares too much if we get light rain Thursday, UNLESS it’s 32 degrees or under.
The long range pattern continues to show strong ridging over or near the West Coast through the first few days of February at least.  If it was 4 weeks from now, I’d say the chance for a (another) cold snap this season is over.  BUT, as we found out last February, we can still get an arctic blast through the 3rd week of next month.  It does appear that January 2007 is going to go down as a dry and cool month…Mark

This morning I had some weird experiences. When I left for school I had front COVERING the roads and everything else, really looked like snow. It was slick too, my friend slipped and broke their tail bone, with an east wind. Hows that for odd. Then when I traveled from my house to TTD for school it went from east at 10mph to like east gusting to 35-40mph or something crazy like that. DIdnt have to much time to check but weird.

I hope we do not go through the next thirty days with a split jet and a dirty ridge!

i love driving on icy roads!

Freezing fog here. Wood deck, front walk, and vehicles are iced up. Would not want to be on the roads in this area tonight.

this weather sucks… not even moisture for the snowboard resorts 🙂 its warm up there. this sucks…

30°F Temp and 30 Dewpoint with dense fog here.
We returned this afternoon from a few days in Lincoln City. It was beautiful, sunglasses-needed weather at the Oregon Coast in January. Last night I watched the moon setting over the ocean, lighting up a line from the horizon right to the water’s edge at the sand.
We took Hwy 18 back. There is snow still in patches along the side of the road near Murphy Hill and ODOT is still removing fallen trees along that stretch. It was clear until we passed the Junction with Hwy 22 to Salem… then we hit the fog for the rest of the drive through Newberg and back to Wilsonville. Very dense around Amity. Sun broke through for a couple of hours here in Wilsonville around 3pm. Now we’re back to…

Here’s on cheaper than the in the link I posted earlier!
Keep checking…I’m sure you could find a good deal on it. Seriously…I’d put radio shack on the list of places to call. It was a special order deal when I was looking a few years ago. At the time MSRP was $400-$500….and they were going to “make me a deal” for $250. However I had already used my employee discount at Lowe’s and gotten it for the same price, so that was that.
Again…it’s not the best but it’s pretty decent for the price. Mine worked just fine, though I never got to test out the wind sensor.

    thanks, chucky, you got mail

    You’ve got mail.
Derek…while I wasn’t able to set up my anemometer (apartment regulations), I was able to set up the rest of the station. Worked perfectly fine for me…in fact I even got ACCURATE rainfall rates from the remnants of Hurricane Frances as it dumped on the Appalachain Mountains! Got almost 10 inches of rain out of it in about a day and a half! She dumped 17 inches of rain about 40 miles away in less than 24hrs….and I believe almost 24inches storm total! Quite a bit of flooding came along with that as you can imagine.
I went to Orlando in 2004 for the landfall of Frances….and actually stood on the beach during Hurricane Charley’s 2nd landfall in SC a month or so before that!. (After crossing Florida and curving back to the North)
    Anyways…sorry for the rambling there.

yeah mine, recored a gust of 5mph to the south and none to the others. and its on the roof exposed

  13. offroadjosh-aloha says:

oh, its the same one as chuckys. damn

  14. Derek-West Gresham says:

Nope, its oregon Scientific. Its a black touch screen.

  15. offroadjosh-aloha says:

what brand is that derek?? yeah is it the weather channel??

  16. Derek-West Gresham says:

I have the WMR968 and I am dissappointed with it. Wind gauge DOES not work correctly, hands down. The highest gust its recorded this winter is 36mph from the south, and 33mph from the east, and its very exposed. LOL Dew point is supposed to go to at least 16, but mine goes to 32…etc so they lied. Oh well, thats my take on it. And yes, I did see the “snow” this afternoon. Indicies look good still, but waiting for models to go snow crazy before I get to excited. 🙂

  17. offroadjosh-aloha says:

cool chucky!! e-mail me at i like that station.

  18. ChuckyD81 says:

WMR968 is the model number of the Oregon Scientific Wx station I have.
It appears as if it’s $299 brand new.
    Look here…(string the lines together)
He says make him an offer….how bout $200? Never know!
Anyways, it’s not the best weather station, but it’s a decent one and is half the price of the “good” ones!

  19. ChuckyD81 says:

Haven’t looked at any prices specifically but I would say you could probably cross Davis and LaCrosse weather stations off your list. They’re very high quality systems, and being that you pay for what you get in Wx Stations…they ain’t cheap. I’ve got an Oregon Scientific weather station that I bought a few years ago for $250. It’s not too bad, but it’s no Davis. If you’re interested I would be willing to sell it to you for a decent price. I’ve not been able to use it for almost a year now b/c of the apartment’s I live in. It’s used, but it would be cheap. If you don’t want to go that route, that’s cool…try Radio Shack! They sell this very model for around $250 I believe. (I bought mine through Lowe’s when I was an employee there back home in NC/SC)
    Also…..E B A Y ! ! !

Hey Guys. I have a question, i am looking at getting a better weather station. I currently have the (The Weather Channel Wireless Weather Station Model 2310-RX). I would like to get a better quality weather station, when we move to Montana(within the next 5months i would like to pick a weather station up, we are moving in June). I also would like to stay under $300, and i would like it to have: Anemometer, Rain Gauge(hydrometer), in/out temp, wireless, and wind chill. One more thing it needs to be a better quality than my current one. I have looked at Davis, Lacrosse, and Oregon Scientific. I don’t know of any other brands. So the real question is, what do you think would be a good brand/model, to get, once again, my max $ is $300 i hope to stay under $200.) (as a teenager, i don’t have ton of $$$)
