Wow…quite a stable weather pattern on the way for the next 7 days at least! Upper level ridge is building overhead with 500mb heights above 580dm. Pretty good for late September. Light onshore flow right now turns offshore by Saturday morning. I expect maybe 2-3 millibars of easterly gradient PDX-DLS tomorrow, then an increase to 5-6 mb. Sunday morning. So Sunday should be the gusty east wind day across the metro area, although we’ll see some tomorrow. Not quite as strong as what we saw early in the month, but probably gusts 25-30 metro area and 40-45 at the west end of the Gorge midday Sunday. This time the flow extends all the way offshore, so the beaches reach the 75-85 range too. Perfect weekend out there.
Offshore flow weakends Monday-Tuesday as a strong shortwave dives into the middle of the USA, but then high pressure behind that gives us renewed east wind by Wednesday again. So it’ll be tough to stay below 80 for daytime highs through the end of next week. Very nice after 9 days of pretty gloomy skies.
DIE SUMMER DIE!!
DEATH TO SUMMER!!
lol, cant wait for that cold winter day when a massive amount of arctic air rushes through the gorge and we get powerful east winds. And at the sametime
we get some very heavy percip. haha. Been so long since anything like this has happened though :(.
Tomorrow actually looks quite hot now. 850mb temps as high as +18 with a flat ridge overhead… Could be pushing 90. In mid summer I say a +19 can give us a 95 after an east wind day so I +18 in late september ought to support 86-90. We will see though.
Wow… The models did make a sharp shift this coming weekend to a decent cold front and looks to be up to .20″ of precip this coming Sunday.
Die summer! Die!
Nogaps has sharp cold front passage Saturday….It forecast the last one. We’ll see!
Hmmm the east winds developed in my area (S.E. 162nd area) about 8:15am. Now they are 10-20mph. I assume the thermal trough must be wavering back and forth along the coast decreasing and increasing the gradient from time to time.
The latest GFS is showing more cooling after Wednesday this week not topping 77 and quickly down into the 50’s for the highs. Although the ECMWF shows the ridge actually moving north towards Vancouver Island and off shore a bit.
I love accuweather… The most extreme of forcasts. 🙂
As to what Derek is saying I absolutely agree. Jesse has been a very positive, friendly blogger. We always enjoy reading this opinions/thoughts and he should be unbanned. Oh and Lol @ Accuweather.
BTW accuweather calls for freezing rain the night of October 4th, winter is coming!!! LOL http://wwwa.accuweather.com/forecast2.asp?partner=ksltv&traveler=1&zipcode=97030&metric=0
Unless Jessie went awol behind our backs, which I seriously doubt, I think he was wrongly banned. Mark/whoever banned him, I don’t think you got the right guy. Jessie has been a positive regular on here for a while and you ought to let him post again, I don’t believe he posted those offensive posts yesterday. It was somebody else.
Troutdale had a low of 61 with east winds all night. And they may be kicking back up again…
Good morning all. What an interesting morning this has been. I woke up about 4am and it was still 67 with a 5-15mph east wind. By 6am the east wind has died off completely and the temperature is now 54.6.
Looks like i should be in the low to mid 80’s all this week here.
Good night, I’m out too
How about the friend of mine that resulted in me getting therapy over. Just kidding. Night everyone!
Anybody check the 00z GFS run. Throws a storm system in here next Monday. ^^
Me too. I’m very odd in how much I enjoy the cold, bitter, brutal, relentless, fierce, battering, howling east winds. Lol (Add your own adjective)
🙂 Yeah, I can’t wait for that.
Well, I wouldn’t feel too bad about the warm night. In just a couple months those winds are going to be your best friend.
72.1 here. Still 10-20 mph east winds.
62.8 and dropping all of a sudden. I may be down into the upper 40’s tonight if the wind stays away.
My temp may have jogged slightly upward, or is at least stable at 70.7. Winds are still picking up so temp should go up to.
I’m down to 64 here but it’s dropping much slower now, only about 1 degree the last hour or so.
East winds are now over 20mph here my temp has jumped from 70 to 74 in the last hour.
3.3mb as of 9:25. This could make for an interesting night.
It appears to have picked up here as well. Probably 5-15mph or so, depending on the time. Although that was through a limited visibility window so I can’t say for sure. Regardless, it is stronger.
I can’t believe that PDX dropped 10 degrees the past hour. I can’t remember last time I saw that.
Yeah Derek it surely must of. 2 hours ago I had a very slight 1-3mph breeze and now the east wind is back to 10-20mph. If this persists it’s going to be 60+ here tonight.
Gradient may have slightly increased, 3.0mb I think. Although I have found it funny that on weather.com PDX always has .01 higher pressure than Troutdale lol. I agree Paul, its too warm. How about we still have east winds, but cold ones 🙂
Too hot all week – gag!
Where’d that wonderful weather we had last week go??
Well, this evening was a perfect end to my summer and for fishing weatherwise. Classes start tomorrow so it will probably be next summer before I get to enjoy weather like this by the side of a farm pond packed with fish. It’s a beautiful 73 here now…..Hmmm, maybe I won’t get alot of homework this first week back and can spend my time fishing some more LOL…not Likely to happen.
I’m already down to 74 degrees here, after a high of 86. Gotta love the earlier dark hours.
That’s crazy how they axed the whole blog, all 163 posts.
I am pretty confident the ridge will break down by early next week, just so you all know.
Thanks for the info Derek.
I think I had become spoiled from our cool weather last week today just seemed a bit too warm and the house got up near 80 inside. I hope the wind dies off rapidly during the evening for a nice cool, crisp morning. Any thoughts on that?
2.5mb right now, it was up to 5mb earlier I think.
That was good to see all of that erased. I know the gradient has slackened some.
Hey does anyone happen to know what the PDX-DLS gradient is at right now? The east winds at my house are still 20-30mph.
whoa, everything get cleared off blog?
