Marine Layer Returns

July 5, 2006

Today’s high of 65 was the coolest day since early June in Portland!  What a change after a warm weekend.
Pretty simple forecast tonight.  Observations at Mt. Hood (Timberline Cam & sensors) show the marine layer is about 5,000′ thick.  That’s thick enough to keep us socked in westside all day again tomorrow.  There is an upper level disturbance moving north overhead tonight.  So some drizzle is likely in spots.  Otherwise no obvious rain producers in sight.
The marine layer thins rapidly Friday morning and temperatures jump quickly into the 80’s over the weekend.  All models have some deeper troughing moving into the Northwest early next week.  But they had also shown the same thing for this Thursday & Friday too.  So I wouldn’t be surprised to see the chance for rain disappear the next few days…Mark
