I’ll be on vacation through Sunday, March 10th. Probably no new posts during that time; I’m confident you don’t want pictures of me relaxing after the exhausting, crazy winter of 2012-2013. Wait, I’m thinking of some other winter…instead I’ll be raising a toast to the most boring winter in years. Let’s put it to rest and move on to spring.
Please behave in the comments below while I am gone. Note the rules to the right. I will be checking in from time to time.
Hahaah!

Just another nice sunny day! could be well over 50 this time.
Wunderground hints t’storms past the 7 day mark. I’m always doubtful of their thinking, but ya never know.
For the most part; any t’storms in March would be cold cored. Probably nothing exciting if anything were to start popping in the atmospheric microwave.
Someone’s gonna get LOTS of rain!
Jury’s still out on how far south the heaviest moisture will fall.
National Weather Service Portland or
920 am PST Sat Mar 9 2013
Rain chances increase for our northern zones by Sunday night and Monday…as a frontal zone stalls across Washington state. There is an abundance of moisture with this front as well as a 120+kt jet providing lift…and great potential for high rainfall totals for southern Washington and northern Oregon. Midnight shift increased quantitative precipitation forecast for these areas Monday
into Tuesday…and this shift has continued the trend after
consulting with the nwrfc.
Long term…Tuesday through Friday night…tropical moisture will
feed a baroclinic zone stalled across Washington and northern Oregon through most of next week…resulting in periods of rain. Stronger short waves could dampen the ridge enough to focus the moisture into Oregon…however at this time the models carry the heaviest precipitation north of the area into western Washington and southern British Columbia.
Rain Boring.Wish just once we could get some cold air with all this MOISTURE. Oh well maybe at the end of the year 014
Uh oh, the models are struggling (still/again).
National Weather Service Portland or
856 am PDT sun Mar 10 2013
Models are struggling to determine where the baroclinic zone will establish as well as the location of the heaviest rain…but have been trending towards a more northern solution. If this pans out… most of the rain will be north of the Columbia River. A subtle shift in the synoptic pattern could point the hose more squarely on our County Warning Area so this bears watching…but at this point…it appears the heavier rains capable of causing rivers to rise to bankfull or higher will stay north of our County Warning Area.
