Corbett just recorded a gust to 75 mph, which ties the highest of the winter and the strongest in a few years. I’m sure no one is up there, but that means Vista House is up in the 100+ mph range now too. A wild night in the Gorge setting you folks up for freezing rain tomorrow!

Freezing rain in Gresham tomorrow and if so, what time????
Read new post.
For your information:
Troutdale Elementary School: G 60mph
Inversions like this KPTV needs to put a “tower sensor” at Mills End Park instead of Counsil Crest Park
I just wished they updated in real-time. The 75 minute lag is a drag.
Yep I agree.
Does KPTV elect to release updated temps 75 minutes late to secure a competitive advantage?
Do you mean the tv tower temps? Those are DEQ, they only use the location. We only access the data like you do. I would sure like to get wind up there too though.
New peak gust for me 44.2 mph @ 8:29 PM.
32.2, dewpoint 16
9 PM
TTD-DLS back up to -10.8mb
Dang, with a DP of 16, I’d say you’re definitely in for a good day of ice tomorrow, regardless of when moisture comes in. If it’s late arriving, then then east wind ends late too. Enjoy!
Seems as if moisture just wont be falling when the temps are cold enough to support freezing rain..so cold a$$ rain it is!
KTPV tower temps, surface temps and QPF timing do not seem to support a widespread ZR event. Localized pockets in the west hills and east side seem to be your best bet.
The cold air is below 1,500′, so tower temps should stay warm through the night.
As of 7 pm it’s almost 36F at 1400 ft., 31F at about 1000 ft. That’s a pretty shallow layer with the influx of Pacific air already working inland. Is the thinking that Gorge outflow is just enough to keep the lowest layers at/below freezing until mid-morning? Not seeing it.
DPs are currently low to mid 20s so there is that….
Yea it’ll be cold enough until noonish I think, because the later the moisture arrives, the later the offshore flow ends and the south wind kicks in, right? Especially with no morning sun to warm things quicker.
..and just as I say that 8 pm tower temps show cooling at T2 and T3…so I guess we’ll see.
Is Eugene getting anything right now? Radar shows pink all around the area.
Finally a turn of events. While I had all the snow in Dec it looks like I am going to miss out on everything this go around. I used to love the east wind out of the gorge in east Portland where I used to live. And the zr. Im jealous. Not gonna lie. Probably won’t be much there this go around but not done for the year im sure. Mark or rob, any kind of forecast for Redmond from you would be greatly appreciated. 24′ right now and dropping fast but fear there will be no moisture. A quick thought please?
I think it’ll just gradually warm up with no moisture there tomorrow. Then cooling with flurries late in the day?
Thanks Mark
I just spread ice melt around the apt complex….freezing rain threat officially negated

Meaning??
Meaning, fake cold.
Are we still on for ZR in the morning? Any updates?
Bouncing between 33 and 34 here. Should be a safe drive to work at 6 am, though, just speculation.
Hmm. 29.1 here, might not be in the clear.
It’s only 8pm…temps should drop into upper 20′s by 2-3am. Question is, will moisture arrive before the warmup?
Down to 28f at my place. I have some clearing going on and that makes all the difference. 320ft between Oregon City and Estacada.
31 in Aloha and continuing some decline. The clouds held off long enough to allow for decent cooling. The ground in Aloha was pretty cold this morning, so it would not surprise me if it gets down to around 29.
Hi Mark – my daughters go to Corbett and my 4th grader is very interested in knowing how you predict the weather. I know you also have a child that goes there – do you ever do any weather presentations for the kids there?
It’s been a few years, time to go bach eh?
They would LOVE that!!
And I want a heads up so I can be there too!
I live in springdale and I think the wind is stronger tonight than it has been for the last three days.
Already seeing moisture move in off the coast….
Probably evaporating before hitting the surface.
Ask the whales if it’s making it to the sea surface.
Fake cold, leading to fake wintry precip PDX to add insult to injury. It was nice up at government camp this wknd for sure, I had a great time. But that wasn’t winter, no matter how cold it was down below. Let’s get some decent winter back here for February.
ZR is simply a pain in the ass, no fun
Currently @kmsp tempuature is 2Fwow that’s where our arctic air went!:(
I think they’re under the same big inversion.
75 and sunny all day in Austin tomorrow my inversion ended Monday in San Antinio for me!
Going to be 70 in Denver tomorrow weird weather!
And you wish to tell us this because…?
It’s over, folks.

KATU just played their “EMERGENCY BREAKING WEATHER ALERT WARNING EMERGENCY!!!” card again. Every time they’ve “issued” one of these things in the two years since they began this ridiculous program, they’ve successfully jinxed it, and nothing happened.
Ain’t that the truth!
Really like the news ribbon (or whatever it is called) at the bottom of that picture.
I thought you said you wanted nothing to do with freezing rain?
OOOHHHHHHH…that was the breaking Weather News…Mark Nelson and Big Dave Selesky to go one on one in a battle royal?
Well, this outta be fun, I roll thru HoodRiver at ~1100 (hrs). All I know is that it was the coldest morning we’ve had yet in Spokane same time 3 years ago it was -15°.
Oh, my. Hope you make it okay.
Very light wind here in Happy Valley, strangely.
Yeah, right now it is a well confined gap wind. That won’t change until PDX-TTD turns offshore… Still a +0.6mb pressure difference between Portland and Troutdale http://wxweb.meteostar.com/meteogram/link_pdiff.shtml?choice=KPDX+KTTD
If that does take place areas east of I-205 may experience 55-60mph+ winds tonight in my opinion…..
Cool. I’d love to see a good 50 or even 40 mph gust here.
The difference between PDX and TTD is now only +0.2MB.
Gusting maybe 15-18mph here now. Hope the trend continues! Temp is 32.4 deg.
I sure wish an Arctic blast shows up. Give it another two weeks!
Me too, but I’m getting increasingly pessimistic about there being one this year.
I will do my part, though: I am about to make train reservations for a trip to Portland early next month. That should help ensure some sort of exciting weather, maybe a huge ice storm that brings trees down across the tracks and shuts down Amtrak.
I’m so SICK of this fake cold and gloom END THIS INVERSION NOW!!!

—– East Wind Storm Update —-
6 PM TTD-DLS -10.9mb almost -11mb really impressive..
Wow… Troutdale 50mph just now! http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?sid=ODT29&table=1&banner=off Wind Advisory soon?
New peak gust for me 43.3mph @ 5:57 PM. C’mon 45+ !
I didn’t catch that there would be an East Wind Storm? Is this a complete surprise, or was everyone just focused on the ZR?
It should only be east of I-205 and western Gorge….
I wonder how many people think freezing rain actually means snow. The average person.
and 2nd
Nope, but 3rd! Although, you can only in once per post.
Dang it!
You out!
Question… Is the you in reference to the Seahawks?
I bet you to it, Mark by a few minutes
… Thanks for the update regardless…..
If this continues the NWS is going to have to issue a High Wind Warning for the Gorge(75mph gust criteria now met) and a Wind Advisory east of I-205 into Gresham-Troutdale-Fairview-Wood Village.
Beat*
Speaking of betting, I wonder if there are places where you can bet on weather results.
I believe it is done on the NYSE as is of course speculative…

You in??????
